Shelby American has a history of taking Ford Mustangs and making them faster and more powerful. However, you might not know that Shelby also builds performance trucks. That means you can have the biggest name in American performance on something you can take to work, camping, or wherever you choose. Check out a Shelby truck instead of a Mustang, like the Shelby F-150 or Shelby Raptor.

How much is an F-150 Super Snake?

The Ford F-150 with the Shelby Super Snake treatment demands a premium. The 775-horsepower Super Snake starts at $114,030 but takes Ford’s flagship pickup truck to new heights. The supercharged F-150 packs performance-oriented parts like a new air intake, aluminum heat exchanger, and high-flow fuel injectors. Moreover, the Lariat chassis-based F-150 Super Snake features lowered sport-tuned suspension to tame the high horsepower better.

However, for Shelby truck fans who want a naturally aspirated application, the 395-horsepower 5.0L Super Snake starts at around $106,130. Still, it isn’t easy to reconcile with not choosing the supercharged V8 super truck.

How much horsepower does a Shelby F-150 have?

Like the street and drag-strip-focused Super Snake, the Shelby F-150 produces 775 horsepower from a supercharged V8. However, unlike the lowered Super Snake, the Shelby F-150 has BFGoodrich K02 off-road tires and a taller suspension. Specifically, Shelby American outfits the Lariat chassis with FOX shocks and a BDS lift system to give the powerful truck some clearance for off-road adventures.

Is the Shelby Raptor truck a V8?

While the Shelby Raptor isn’t a V8, it still produces commendable power. According to Shelby American, the Baja-inspired super truck produces over 525 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque from its twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6. That’s more than enough power to send the off-roader hurtling over dunes and across rugged terrain. The Shelby Raptor has 37-inch tires with an aggressive tread and tall ground clearance to tap into its Baja pedigree.

So, although the Raptor isn’t a V8 anymore, the Shelby Raptor is more than powerful enough to take on all sorts of terrain and challenges. Shelby American themselves bill the Raptor as their “most polished performance truck to date.”

Which Shelby truck should you consider?

The Ram 1500 TRX and the new Ford F-150 Raptor R are comparable choices if you’re looking for a muscle truck with horsepower to spare. However, both options lack the pedigree and exclusivity of the Shelby namesake. Also, MotorTrend reports that the 700-horsepower Raptor R starts at around $109,145, which isn’t far from some of the options in the Shelby truck lineup.

Moreover, the 4×4 F-150 Super Snake hits 60 mph in just 3.45 seconds, making it faster than a 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and its 760-horsepower supercharged 5.2L Predator V8. That’s impressive for a big, heavy truck. However, the Shelby F-150 and Shelby Raptor are much better suited to off-road work.
