Want a Proper 4-Door American Car In 2024? Don’t Expect It From Ford, Dodge, or Chrysler
The era of the four-door American car might be coming to a definitive close, as General Motors makes some of the last gas-powered sedans in the domestic market, like the posh Cadillac CT4. That’s right, if you wanted a Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, or Ford Fusion in 2024, you might be out of luck. So, which American sedans can you still buy in 2024? And which popular nameplates didn’t make the cut?
What American cars can you still buy?
Unfortunately for fans of the large, comfortable American car, there are fewer of them for the 2024 model year. Here are several of the last remaining four-door American gas-powered sedans you can buy.
- Cadillac CT4
- Cadillac CT4-V
- Cadillac CT5
- Cadillac CT5-V
- Chevrolet Malibu
Yes, dear reader, GM has a bit of a final hold on the ICE sedan market for American car marques heading into 2024. Of course, plenty of other domestic sedans are available sans gas engines. For instance, the Tesla Model S will enter its thirteenth year of continuous production next year. Moreover, Lucid’s opulent Air sedan offers a pricey, posh competitor to the Model S, again with electric-only drive.
Which American cars aren’t available in 2024?
Fans might be saddened by the loss of the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 for 2024. Dodge’s Parent company, Stellantis, is discontinuing the LD-platform sedans after the 2023 model year. As a result, the Dodge and Chrysler lineups will have zero ICE cars in 2024, sedans or otherwise.
Moreover, Ford and Lincoln discontinued their Fusion, MKZ, and Continental sedans in 2020. Consequently, the Blue Oval’s only gas-powered car option will be the Ford Mustang, which enters its seventh generation (S650) in 2024.
Why is Dodge discontinuing the Charger?
Dodge will discontinue its flagship sedan and coupe, the Charger and Challenger, after 2023 to focus on more efficient platforms. While the LD-platform Dodge Charger will be no more after this model year, Dodge plans to revive the nameplate as an EV coupe.
However, the Charger isn’t alone on its journey to the American car graveyard; the Chrysler 300 will also meet its maker before 2024. It makes sense, considering the shared platform between the two models. Still, the absence of the popular sedan leaves just one model in Chrysler’s 2024 lineup: the Pacifica minivan.
Are there any 100% American-made vehicles?
While 100% American-made is a strange concept in today’s car market, Tesla claims that its vehicles are the most American-made cars on sale today.
However, regardless of American parts or assembly, the list of domestically available cars shrinks yearly. Keep up with MotorBiscuit for the latest content about gas-powered cars and EVs!
