Back in the 90s, there was a bunch of Japanese sports cars on the market that were highly regarded and highly coveted. Among them were the Mazda RX-7, the Acura NSX, the Toyota Supra, and the Nissan 300ZX. And while that last car wasn’t exactly the cream of the crop when it came to sports car agility, it was a beastly car nonetheless.

But as time went on, that group of cars died out – only to be resurrected later – and the 300ZX eventually morphed into the 350Z and then the 370Z, making finding 300ZXs a rarity in the used market. But what you might not know is that in the Japan, the Nissan 300ZX was known as the “Fairlady,” and since we can now import Japanese cars that are 25-years-old, you can now import this 1992 Nissan Fairlady Z Convertible and relive those tuner car days of the 90s.

The Nissan Fairlady Z had some gusto

In case you’re unfamiliar with the Nissan 300ZX, it was a 2+2 seat sports car that featured a sleek, wedge shape and a choice between two potent V6 engines. The base engine was a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter, VG30DE engine that produced 222 hp and 198 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the higher output engine on offer was a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter, VG30DETT engine that produced 300 hp and 283 lb-ft of torque.

Power aside, the 300ZX was a solid car that weighed a hefty 3,300 pounds when competitors like the C4 Corvette were lighter and faster. That meant that although the 300ZX was considered a sports car, in real-world driving it was actually more of a grand touring cruiser. As such, Nissan released a convertible version of the 300ZX in 1993, however, the overall sales of the car declined and automaker cut production completely in 1996.

Japanese Classics has an eccentric Nissan Fairlady Z for sale

The Nissan 300ZX may have only lasted a total of six years here in the U.S. – making them tough to find in the used market – but importers like Japanese Classics over in Richmond, VA, are currently importing some Nissan Fairlady models that can be legally registered here. As is the case for this 1992 Fairlady Z that’s covered in a unique coat of “Cocoa Bronze Pearl” paint. Believe it or not, that’s a stock color.

By the looks of it, the interior is in great shape and according to the car’s description, the dashboard isn’t cracked and the same can be said about the door panels and the carpet. And yes, that’s a four-speed automatic that you’re looking at, and it is connected to the non-turbo V6 engine, but take into consideration that the turbocharged engine would prone to excess heat and possibly more repairs.

It’s a good deal for some fun in the sun

Ultimately, this interesting example of a Nissan 300ZX has its quirks, but it’s most likely an exceptional cruising car as well. The convertible top can be retracted in less than 30 seconds, which means that you can have fun in the sun whenever the season calls for it. And considering there are only 98,000 miles on the odometer, you can rest assured that it will last you a while too.

Japanese Classics currently has the car listed for a selling price of $10,995, which is on par with what the U.S.-spec 300ZX cars are going for nowadays, but at least with this one, you’ll also have the novelty of it being right-hand-drive.
