The Warthog Is out and the Ford Bronco Raptor Is in
We have a plot twist for y’all today! We thought the new Ford Bronco Warthog was on the way to provide an even beefier off-roading model. But now it looks like the Warthog name will be going to a different vehicle once the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor arrives instead.
The 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor is coming
According to FORD AUTHORITY, sources suggest that the Ford Bronco Warthog is out, and the Ford Bronco Raptor is in. Last fall, they reported about a hardcore Ford Bronco model that seemed to be on the way.
After spotting the first prototype, Ford trademarked the Warthog name. This suggested that the Bronco Warthog was on the way, then a prototype was spotted with Warthog written inside of the wheel well to confirm this idea.
Now, sources familiar with Ford’s upcoming product plans suggest that the Warthog moniker was used to misdirect fans. Ford could be leaning toward creating the 2021 Ford Bronco Raptor instead.
This makes sense as Ford desires to utilize well-known, established names for vehicles. The Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 Lightning serve as two examples of brand new vehicles with fully loaded history and name recognition.
What to expect with the Bronco Raptor
All we can do is speculate for now. However, the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor is expected to be powered by the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 365 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. This engine is currently found in the Ford Explorer ST and Lincoln Aviator. It’s expected to produce 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque in the Raptor.
It could also be joined by a new hybrid variant. It could be powered by the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 and electric motor combination that’s currently found in the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring. It pumps out 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrain options will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Plus, the Bronco Raptor could receive a few mechanical upgrades that are found with existing Raptor models. It could gain the Fox Live Valve shock technology, 17-inch wheels, and LT315/70R17 BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A tires.
It may have an upgraded look that includes a wider stance, higher ground clearance, unique front, rear fascias, bumper treatments, and ‘Ford’ lettering across the front grille. Also, it’s safe to expect tons of Raptor badging. For example, little Broncos are found all over the Ford Bronco Sport.
But what about the Warthog name?
Let’s take a break from the 2021 Ford Bronco Raptor for a moment. Is another off-roading vehicle on the horizon? Could we see the Ford Maverick Warthog instead? We already have the Ford Explorer Timberline, so this is pretty puzzling.
The history of the Warthog name comes from a few different things, including a military plane known as the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II. It provided close air support for friendly ground troops for the United States Air Force.
The U.K. Armed Forces once used a unique amphibious vehicle, the All-Terrain Tracking Carrier, and it was known as both the Warthog and Bronco! That puts the two monikers together. Also, in the popular video game series Halo, the Warthog is an ATV-like vehicle that can go anywhere. It’s a pretty beastly name.
