The Chrysler 300 is a posh four-door vehicle with a spacious interior and tasteful interior features. However, it’s not all sober sedans; Chrysler has a background in stuffing capable V8s into its flagship family car, like the Chrysler 300 SRT8. However, the most beloved of Mopar engines is the unhinged Hellcat V8, and Dodge has been building supercharged sedans with it for years. Still, given the popularity of these muscular motors, was there ever a Chrysler 300 Hellcat?

Does Chrysler have a Hellcat engine?

Unfortunately for fans of the Chrysler 300, the marque never got around to stuffing the venerable Hellcat engine into the sedan. That’s really quite a shame, too. The 6.2L supercharged Hellcat V8 produced 707 horsepower at its 2015 unveiling, and Dodge has managed to squeeze up to 807 horsepower out of it since then. Better yet, Dodge, which is owned by the same parent company as Chrysler, has a library of Charger sedans with the screeching Hellcat V8 under the hood. 

While the 300 is a capable car, it never got the swivel-eyed lunacy of over 700 horsepower from the factory. Seeing the 300’s handsome styling obscured by tire smoke and supercharger whine would have been a sight. It seems like an opportunity missed. 

What engines can you have in a Chrysler 300 if not the Hellcat?

Instead of the supercharged Hellcat V8, the latest Chrysler 300s offer three engines. First, the workhorse 3.6L Pentastar V6 is standard in every trim level. That engine produces 292 horsepower in its standard state of tune and 300 horsepower in the range-topping 300S. However, if you want more horsepower and torque, the 300S offers an optional 363-horsepower 5.7L Hemi V8. 

Still, Chrysler announced that the last model year of the 300 sedans, 2023, would include a tire-scorching 300C trim. The 2023 Chrysler 300C packs a 485-horsepower 6.4L V8 naturally aspirated engine. While it’s a shame that the Hellcat never made its way into the Chrysler 300, the 6.4L naturally aspirated V8 is a mighty heart. 

What can you do instead?

If you can get your hands on the 2023 Chrysler 300C, it’s the closest a factory 300 has ever been to a Hellcat-powered sedan. However, Chrysler announced that it would produce just 2,000 of the cars, so they’ll be challenging to acquire. Still, you have other options for a burnout-prone Chrysler sedan. 

For instance, you could find one of the pre-2015 Chrysler 300 SRT8s with a 6.4L V8. Specifically, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says that a 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 has a fair price of $28,654 with around 50,000. That makes it a bonafide sleeper bargain. 

Was there ever a Chrysler 300 Hellcat?

While there was never a factory-stock Chrylser 300 Hellcat, there have been custom builds. For instance, a fully-custom 300S packed over 850 horsepower from a Hellcat engine swap. Where there’s a will, there’s a Hellcat swap. Scroll down to the following article to read more about super sedans!
