Going beyond the speed limit is never advised, nor is it legal. Going 70 mph in a parking lot and expecting it to end well is insane, and we’ll show you why. Though grainy, this phone vid of a Dodge Challenger doing just that ends horribly, but you knew that. We wish the driver had known, too.

Where did this parking lot fiasco take place?

This happened in Oklahoma City in a shopping mall parking lot. While we expected it to involve a Mustang, we were a bit surprised that it is a Challenger. Everything starts fine until the parking lot starts getting shorter. Then, our Challenger driver hits a dip or speed bump, or maybe both because it looks like it takes multiple hits.

That’s when a wheel flies off from the downforce. But the Challenger didn’t just lose the wheel, the force broke off the wheel hub which took the brake and entire assembly. Luckily, no one was hit when that heavy piece of shrapnel went singing. Or zinging. 

After the accident, what do you think bystanders did?

Anyway, laughs from the crowd ensued. The driver had to have been embarrassed that his bravado ended in him breaking his Dodge. Keep this in mind the next time you decide to show off in front of a crowd. They’re not on your side. 

But the driver was also lucky that he didn’t lose complete control, because, without brakes or a left front wheel, you’re kind of out of control anyway. Needless to say, this could have ended far worse. With anywhere from 485 hp to almost 800 hp in Hellcat form, and with close to 4,000 lbs on the slim side, this was never going to end well. You can’t control too much in a tight area like a parking lot with that much power and weight.  

The driver ran out of parking lot real quick

He probably ran out of parking lot before he could react. That’s what it looks like, anyway. Just think, how much better would it have been to take it to a drag strip, pay your 50 bucks, and have plenty of room to accelerate? And to slow down after your run?

You also get a crowd, so there’s that. So take in the Twitter vid of the rather dark night a Challenger owner lost his brains but gained a valuable lesson. One that also cost him a new front suspension, wheels, and tires. Unless he also high centered the oil pan. Then, providing he has insurance, would they just total it?
