The Chevrolet Corvette has a long and rich automotive history — and is one of the most beloved sports cars of all time. Many might realize that the Corvette was named after the corvette warship, a fast naval boat. Now, the Corvette comes full circle with this crazy C7 Corvette jet car boat, which was recently chased by the water police in Florida. 

C7 Corvette: Is it a car, a boat, or a jet ski?

Those that journey to the Miami area might come across a peculiar sight: a Chevy C7 Corvette that floats on water. This unusual vehicle is the brainchild of JetCar, a company that makes boats that resemble exotic cars. Lately, the Corvette jet car boat has been getting a great deal of attention, especially after a driver published a YouTube video showing how he got pulled over by the water police in Florida.

JetCar designed the C7 Corvette jet car boat to look like the iconic American sports car. While the company doesn’t outright say so, the C7 Corvette jet car boat is fairly close to being a jet ski, as detailed by Motor1. Underneath the Corvette-shaped body, there’s a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke, 1.8-liter High Output Yamaha Marine Engine. This enables the boat to reach a top speed of 65 mph. 

In case you were wondering, the C7 Corvette boat isn’t amphibious. It has the body of a Corvette sports car, but it can only operate on water. 

Water police in Florida pull over the C7 Corvette jet car boat

As you can see in the YouTube video, the C7 Corvette jet car boat is quite surreal. It cruises along the water — and at times, appears as if it’s floating in midair. Like a real Corvette car, the boat has wheels, but the wheels don’t spin as it moves. 

The driver in the video was having a blast with his Corvette jet car boat, but his fun was cut short when a Florida Wildlife Commission helicopter, siren blazing, chased him from above. The driver shouted, “We’re on the run from the cops! We’re on the run! There’s a helicopter right behind me!” He then sped ahead and said, “All right, we’re going to race them, baby! Let’s go!”

Soon after, a water police boat pulled over the Corvette jet car boat to investigate. The driver explained, “Yeah, so basically, it’s just a big old jet ski — just like a really weird shape.” The police then asked for the license and documentation. After some deliberations, the police let him go. The driver then shouted, “I’m a free man. We beat the case!”

Corvette jet car boat is available to buy or rent

Customers can either buy or rent the C7 Corvette jet car boat. The purchase price ranges from $46,000 to $55,000, while the rental fee is $350 per hour with a minimum of one hour of use. 

The C7 Corvette jet car boat is a convertible with a two-seat layout in which the driver and passenger sit side-by-side. For pumping out the music while on the water, there’s an onboard Bose sound system with four premium speakers. Other features include windshield wipers, headlights, navigation/stern lights, and taillights.
