There is no denying that the Tesla Model 3 is a fast car. A quick search on YouTube reveals countless videos of Model 3‘s drag racing and keeping up with supercars. However, when this speed is unleashed at the wrong time, chaos can easily follow.

A new video published by Wham Baam Teslacam on YouTube shows just that as a Tesla, and a Dodge Challenger sped together on a crowded highway. While it isn’t clear if they were racing, they were undoubtedly speeding alongside one another. Unfortunately, this led to a massive multi-vehicle crash.

Were the Tesla Model 3 and the Dodge Challenger racing?

The video opens up with the Tesla Model 3 speeding on the highway. We know this because the video clearly shows the EV quickly overtaking cars on the highway. In the background, we catch a glimpse of a set of headlights weaving through traffic. According to Wham Baam Teslacam, the Model 3 owner reportedly overtook a Dodge Challenger. In response, the driver of the muscle car reportedly became upset and aggressively began chasing the EV.

While trying to keep up with the speeding Tesla Model 3, the Dodge Challenger began overtaking cars quickly as well. Given how much traffic is visible from the video, there was no way this maneuver would end well. In a last-ditch attempt to overtake the Tesla, the Dodge went all the way to the right lane. While trying to cut back into the middle and left lanes, the muscle car driver overlooked a slow-moving Honda Accord in the middle lane. You can probably guess what happened next.

Since the Tesla Model 3 was sitting in the left lane, there was nowhere for the Dodge Challenger to go once it saw the Honda Accord. As a result, the muscle car smashes into the back of the Accord, lifting its rear wheels in the process. From the video, we can see that the Dodge’s front-end is immediately destroyed. The impact was so intense that it sent the Honda barreling toward a large wall on the highway.

Since the Dodge Challenger was speeding at the moment of impact, it still carried plenty of speed even after the first accident. As a result, the Challenger quickly slammed into a Honda Civic directly in front of the Accord. Toward the end of the video, we clearly see that all three of the vehicles involved in the accident quickly spun out and eventually came to a stop. The Tesla Model 3 that recorded the video did not even flinch, speeding off into the distance.

Did the Tesla cause this accident?

It is clear from the video that both the Tesla Model 3 and the Dodge Challenger were in the wrong, to begin with. Separate from the Challenger, the Model 3 was already traveling at a high rate of speed when there was slow traffic around, causing it to weave back and forth. The Dodge Challenger escalated things by going even faster and trying to overtake the Tesla. As a result, two other drivers were likely injured thanks to one selfish Challenger owner’s bruised ego.

The video in question comes courtesy of the Tesla Model 3’s cameras. According to Car and Driver, the Model 3 features up to eight cameras, which it utilizes for its Autopilot and Sentry modes. Additionally, it provides a clear view of crashes on the road.
