Watch Drunk Florida Woman Take the Drive of Her Life While Trashing a Golf Course in Wild Police Chase
The folks at Grand Harbor Golf Course in Vero Beach, Florida, got a heavy dose of Florida during their morning rounds last Tuesday. An alleged drunk woman decided to bring her own “kart” (Toyota 4Runner)to the links, quickly followed by local police. She, and the boys and girls in blue, made quite the mess of the fairway during this wild police chase until it ended with a nicely-executed pit maneuver from one of the officers.
What happens if you drive a Toyota 4Runner on a golf course?
It seems like you get promptly escorted to jail. Carscoops notes that according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, the chase started on Tuesday afternoon after a deputy attempted to pull over 60-year-old Jodi Ann Harvey.
People run from the police all the time. However, this one got exciting when Harvey smashed through the gate protecting the Grand Harbor Golf Course. The officer’s dashcam starts once the police chase makes its way to the golf course.
As she blasts down the green, she eventually makes her way to a golf cart path, where she has to dodge parked carts. From there, the chase moves to the fairway yet again. The pursuit is wild and meandering. Both the officer and the allegedly drunk driver tried to stick to the cart path when the green would have allowed either to get the upper hand sooner.
What is a PIT maneuver?
The chase continues on the fairway until the police officer whose dashcam we are watching decides, enough is enough and gives her the business. The business I’m referring to is the classic PIT maneuver.
For decades, the PIT maneuver, or Pursuit Intervention Technique, has been employed by law enforcement and others. It is one of the most effective ways to stop a car. However, the PIT is fairly risky as it can easily go wrong and hurt the driving performing it and the one trying to be stopped.
In this case, with the slick grassy field, the PIT move was textbook. The police officer hits her right rear corner and gives it the beans, essentially forcing her car to drift out of her control and into the officer’s control. Once Harvey’s Toyota 4Runner came to a stop, other officers boxed her in, ending the chase.
The driver now faces a DUI charge among others after wild police chase
The allegedly drunk woman was quickly taken into police custody, and thankfully, the Sheriff’s Office noted no injuries were reported. That’s good news, but all three vehicles did “sustain damage. Don’t do a PIT maneuver with a car you really like.
As noted by CarScoops, Harvey faces a laundry list of charges, including “aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, DUI, two felony counts of criminal mischief, aggravated flee/elude, and aggravated assault on an officer/firefighter/EMT.”
