[WATCH] Limited Edition Ford F-150 Gets Fried by a Lightning Strike
Last week, the owner of a 2023 Ford F-150 Heritage Edition played back his home security footage after a bad thunderstorm. The truck had suffered catastrophic electric damage that seemingly no one had witnessed. Thanks to the camera, he’s able to prove to his insurance company what really happened to his limited-run pickup. His video is embedded below.
“Zeus himself decided I no longer needed my truck.”
Texan Jeremy Jameson posted the storm footage on his Instagram account. After a booming thunderclap, a huge, deep-orange lightning bolt hammered through the truck’s left front.
Amazingly, the phenomenon was felt strongly enough to power up the 4×4’s headlights – twice. Clearly, modules and electronics were fried, causing the headlamps to illuminate. Smoke drifts from the truck right after the strike.
RIP 2023 Ford F-150 Heritage Edition
The 2023 Heritage Edition F-150 has special retro-inspired features, including two-tone paint options, special seat trim inserts, and a white “75 Years” emblem on the windshield. Inside, the Heritage Edition logo is embossed on the console.
The limited-release trim is available on XLT High 302A-equipped F-150s. Due to the required packages to reach the special edition, its starting price is more than $56,000. For instance, buyers must option the 145-inch wheelbase, the SuperCrew cab, and the XLT Sport Appearance Package.
Of course, some jokes arose in the Instagram comments. One person posited, “That’s how Transformers are born.” Another simply said, “F-150 Lightning,” referring to the EV version of the best-selling pickup.
In the end, the F-150 will likely be totaled via comprehensive auto insurance. Otherwise, the truck will surely pose a nightmarish job for the assigned technician.
