Watch This Lost Super Bowl Ad For the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe For the Bizarre Closed Captioning
For as many people tune into the Super Bowl every year to watch the sport, likely the same number tune in to watch the commercials. The latest Jeep Wrangler 4xe commercial was made for the Super Bowl but never aired. The commercial has multiple layers that deserve some unpacking. The new 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a game-changer, and this Jeep adds plays to that notion.
Watch the lost Jeep Wrangler 4xe Super bowl commercial
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe ad isn’t all that much to write home about on the surface. However, if you hit the closed caption (CC) button on the YouTube player before watching (or rewatching if you were hasty), you’ll find the secondary and more creative part of the commercial.
This little trick was pointed out to us via MotorTrend. The CC adds some humor and context to the animal kingdom’s rendition of 2001: a Space Odyssey. If you aren’t musically inclined, with the captions on, you notice immediately that the animals are joining in the song with captions like “[Hippo Groans melodically],” “[Iguana Belts Major 3rd],” and “[Sloth Reestablishes Tonic Like a Legend].”
There is another level, still to this Lost Jeep commercial
If you notice, in between the animal helpers, the shots of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe have a caption that reads whatever the Jeep is doing in the shot, like “[Rock Crawling],” or “[Splash].” It isn’t until we see it quietly zipping around in the dirt with the caption “[Almost Silent Driving].”
This reveals the second layer of the secret Jeep commercial. Although obscured by the closed caption settings, the commercial is letting us know that not only is the Wrangler 4xe environmentally friendly, but it is also quiet enough to hear the various calls and rumblings of the woodland creatures.
The Monolith in the desert
In the final moments of the Jeep spot, we see the Jeeps pulled up to the monolith to charge, which previously had the apes upset and confused.
Even without the CC activated, this lost Jeep ad was effective. If you never see the funny captions, the ad still shows a badass Jeep Wrangler 4xe ripping through the woods, implying a more responsible way to off-road.
How Earth-friendly is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe are 4×4 Jeeps like we’ve always known them but not with a powerful and efficient hybrid drivetrain. The 2022 Wrangler 4xe combines a 2.0-liter turbo engine with a 17-kWh battery, two electric motors, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The net power output stands at 375 hp and 470 lb-ft, making the 4xe the second-most-powerful Wrangler after the 392 Hemi.
The Wrangler 4xe is easily the most efficient Jeep, with an EPA estimate of 49 mpg-e combined. This plug-in hybrid aspect is key to this amazing fuel economy. The EPA estimated MPG drops considerably without a full charge on the system. As a normal hybrid, the Wrangler 4xe returns 20 mpg combined. This is still an improvement, but not by much.
So long as you keep the Jeep Wrangler 4xe charged, the commercial may not be quite as absurd as it is a first. While the commercial is clever, keep in mind, engine noise or not, it’s still a Jeep Wrangler chewing up the Earth and spitting mud out the other side.
