Watch: Miracle Escape as Giant Concrete Slab Hits Car — Viral Video!
When driving a car, there are a variety of things that pose a danger. Whether it’s adverse weather conditions, distracted drivers, or aggressive driving behavior, you must be aware of roadway dangers to ensure that you safely make it back home. However, the last thing you’d expect to see is a giant slab of concrete falling from the sky, as shown in a viral YouTube video from Russia.
Viral YouTube video of massive concrete slab falling on Nissan X-Trail SUV in Russia
The Siberian Times posted a YouTube video of a massive concrete slab falling from the sky and crushing a Nissan X-Trail compact crossover SUV. The X-Trail in Russia is similar to the Nissan Rogue sold in the North American market. The video was posted over two years ago, but it has since gone viral.
As detailed by the Siberian Times, the X-Trail was in a parking lot in Vladivostok, a major Russian port city on the Pacific Ocean. Following a severe storm with heavy frozen rain, ice and snow covered the SUV. As shown by the CCTV video footage, Alexander, the 27-year-old driver, attempted to scrape the ice off the windshield.
Then, Alexander heard a strange sound from above. He looked up — and shockingly, saw a giant concrete slab break off a nearby building. It rapidly crashed down — and slammed into the SUV, leaving it in a heap of twisted metal.
The driver miraculously escaped the huge chunk of concrete
Miraculously, Alexander barely managed to escape the giant chunk of concrete. Whether through a stroke of luck or lightning-quick reflexes, the concrete slab narrowly missed hitting him — by only a matter of inches. He darted out behind the X-Trail SUV as the concrete viciously struck the roof.
Alexander continued to run far away from his car while the concrete slab strangely remained in an upright position — as if it was the new passenger. Also, the married father of one said that shortly before the incident, “his wife Daria went upstairs to get some hot water to help them clear ice.” It’s fortunate that neither of them were hurt. As one commentator to the video wrote, “The moral of this story is ‘Cars can be replaced, humans can’t.’ In this case, well done, Human.”
Building collapse followed heavy frozen rain and strong winds in Siberia
Shoddy building construction may have played a role in the concrete slab falling on the car. However, the incident happened after a severe winter storm struck Russia. With heavy frozen rain and strong winds, the storm turned Vladivostok and the surrounding area into a “frozen land.” The Siberian Times also called it a “winter apocalypse.”
The storm adversely affected important infrastructure systems, leaving 120,000 people without electricity, and many lost access to heating and water. Also, roads and bridges were shut down, flights were delayed, and authorities urged residents to stay home.
Also, along with the concrete slab hitting the Nissan X-Trail SUV, a concrete post fell on a Toyota Passo subcompact car. It smashed its roof and rear section.
Driving dangers from above
In terms of a car accident, dangers from above are a rare occurrence. However, some roads, such as the Big Sur section of the Pacific Coast Highway in California, have landslides and falling rocks. Be sure to drive carefully and slowly if you travel on a road with a falling rocks sign, especially after heavy precipitation. And check for any road closures.
Also, the YouTube video of the concrete slab falling on a car highlights the dangers of winter driving. If there’s a severe winter storm, don’t drive unless it’s absolutely necessary. Furthermore, drive slowly on snowy and icy roads, and make sure to increase your following distance behind other cars.
