Tragically, motorcycle riders crash every day. Sometimes riders can’t avoid an obstacle. Other times, foolish and distracted drivers hit them. However, sometimes, as is the case with one sportbike rider on a curvy road in an Instagram post, a motorcycle rider just does something stupid.

Sometimes a motorcycle rider makes their own bad day by making some truly poor decisions

There’s a popular adage in the motorcycle rider community. “It’s not if, it’s when.” No, that doesn’t refer to the likelihood that you’ll get a speeding ticket or break down and buy a second, third, or twelfth bike. No, dear reader– it’s the morbid reality that the majority of riders will have a crash or spill at some point in time. Some people say “It’s not if you’ll lay your bike down, it’s when.”

Unfortunately, there’s an element of truth to the madness. In my own experiences, most of my riding buddies and motorcycle-riding family members have had multiple close calls, wrecks, and even hospital stays. Sad to say, one of my early riding compatriots wasn’t so lucky.

Fortunately for one motorcycle rider of questionable decision-making, he was able to walk away from a pretty serious crash. In a short online video, the rider attacks a corner at speed as they approach a slow-moving Kia sedan. The rider, drifting toward the shoulder goes for an outside overtake of the little red car.

They cut it quite close, taking off the Kia’s mirror in the process. However, rather than recovering back into the lane, the rider encounters a group of three bicyclists. They drift even further, now rolling on the dirt next to the road shoulder. Worse yet, the rider instigates a rear tire slide and launches himself over the handlebars. Fortunately, the rider, visibly shaken, rises to their feet. Even more fortunate, it appears that the rider didn’t harm any of the cyclists.

Instagram user Bruno Antunes posted the video of the violent spill. Antunes proudly displays their affinity for riding, along with a tagline touting a Honda CBR1000RR-R. Now, the CBR1000RR-R is one of the Japanese marque’s track bikes. Needless to say, the 1,000cc bike is a circuit weapon. Either way, you can see the video of the needless crash below!
