Watch: Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Jay Leno Driving Tesla Cybertruck*
*If you have children please cut the sound as there are naughty words on this Instagram footage*
Still aching for more Tesla Cybertruck news? Good, here’s some footage for you. How about Jay Leno with Elon Musk riding shotgun blasting down Crenshaw Blvd. in the Cybertruck? Gorgeouserika on Instagram posted this cameraphone footage of the pair on Crenshaw in Hawthorne, California. That’s within throwing distance of Tesla’s home digs in El Segundo.
With the Cybertruck towering over her Honda, you can hear gorgeouserika say, “That’s the little SpaceX car, the little Elon Musk car.” Of course, Musk started SpaceX which is situated next to Tesla’s headquarters. As a local landmark of sorts, it makes sense that gorgeouserika would know about it.
It seems like Musk is quite enjoying himself as he and Leno are driving down Crenshaw Blvd.
For his part Musk seems to be enjoying himself. He’s smiling and waving, clearly happy. We can’t see Leno but we know the Cybertruck is set to be on his Jay Leno’s Garage cable show sometime in the near future.
Though it seems counter from someone so invested in ICE vehicles Leno has been vocal in his admiration of Tesla and electrification. In one of his cable shows, he said so about the next-gen Roadster. In promoting his show on CNBC he said, “I have a Tesla. I’ve had it for three years. I’ve never done anything. There are no fluids to change. There’s nothing.
Here’s what Leno said about Tesla and electrification
“For a new technology to succeed it can’t be equal, it’s got to be better and they’ve sort of solved the battery problem. It can go 350-400 miles on a charge on a lot of electric cars. There’s no maintenance. They’re faster than the gas car. So, there’s almost no reason to have a gas car unless you’re doing long-haul duty.”
When the episode is aired it will also include the Tesla Model Y crossover that is almost ready to become available according to Teslarati.
We’re curious if this is the only Cybertruck or if there are others?
One thing we’ve been curious about is if this is one of a number of prototypes or if this is the one-and-only? The Cybertruck has been spotted numerous times blasting around the LA area. Either the one prototype is getting some heavy use or there are a number of them making appearances here and there.
We would like to see others if they exist and see if there are details evolving or if this is the way it will actually look? The pickup shown in the initial reveal had no outside mirrors. It should be noted this one still doesn’t. So is this the one-and-only?
This is Musk’s project he’s wanted to do for a long time
Musk has already said that the Cybertruck is where his interests lie as far as transportation is concerned. “It’s something I have wanted to make for a long time,” he says. “If there’s only a small number of people that like that truck, I guess we’ll make a more conventional truck in the future. But it’s the thing that I am personally most fired up about.”
We’ve said it before, the days of toasters on wheels need to be over. Fun and fantastical future conveyances- that’s what we need. If the Cybertruck does nothing more than to kickstart that sort of product cadence, then we’re all in for an exciting future.
