Not all people care to watch video reels of cars drifting around the track. For those who do, this clip of the Toyota GR Supra drift racing is pretty awesome. Especially for those out there that love Toyota and appreciate the design and engineering that this Japanese carmaker flows into each vehicle.

In the video below, we get to watch drivers Ken Gushi & Fredric Aasbø race around the track. They hit curves at impressive drift speeds and make you wonder why in the heck Toyota doesn’t put out a production Supra GR with a manual transmission. Still, this example of the Supra’s performance might pique some interest in the 2021 Toyota Supra.

The 2021 Toyota Supra

Reintroduced in 2020, the Toyota Supra is back. Though it doesn’t quite reach the performance status of the Toyota GR Supra drift racing video, it’s still a pretty exciting sporty coupe. Plus, Toyota already added a list of improvements for the 2021 model year.

It’s getting a bump in horsepower, too. According to Car and Driver, the 3-liter inline-six is stepping it up. The 2021 Toyota Supra has 382 horsepower to the 2020 Toyota Supra’s 335.

In order to offer more diversity with the Supra, Toyota is also rolling out a 4-cylinder option. This 2021 Supra won’t content with the Toyota GR Supra in the drift racing movie, but it will get a punchy turbo four. While it won’t be quite as powerful as the 6-cylinder counterpart, it is more efficient––and still makes 255 horsepower.

If you opt for the 2021 Toyota Supra A91 special edition, the 6-cylinder engine is standard equipment. In addition, there’s a whole package of appearance enhancements that come with the Supra A91. Due to these style tweaks, Toyota ensures that the Supra A91 stands out against other 2021 Toyota Supra models.

We aren’t mad about any of these changes. And, on top of all that, the 2020 Toyota Supra’s standard 6.5-inch infotainment display is getting upgraded too. The 2021 Toyota Supra now gets an 8.8-inch display screen that’s standard on every Supra model.

Toyota GR Supra drift racing

The Toyota Supra shares the inner workings of the BMW Z4. This video of the Toyota GR Supra drift racing is a great way to showcase the performance level that engineers had in mind when developing this fun little coupe. Gazoo Racing––that’s what GR stands for––takes it up several notches in the development of Toyota team’s race vehicles.

With drivers Ken Gushi & Fredric Aasbø behind the wheel, we get to really see the Supra in action. Perhaps more action than the 6-speed automatic transmission will give to production level Supras. However, that’s not to dock the transmission.

Even Car and Driver, notorious for judging a car becuase it doesn’t offer the option of a manual transmission, appreciates the responsiveness of the Supra’s transmission. While the publication, and other critics––including those of us at MotorBiscuit––would love to see a manual Supra option, the paddle shifters reportedly work great and there’s not much to complain about in terms of the overall driving experience.

So, while the 2020 Toyota Supra and its updated 2021 model are exactly on par with the Toyota GR Supra drift racing in the video, we are still glad to see the Supra back at it. It’s definitely a fun car. Though not for everyone, those that love it love it.
