Watching the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 rip to over 200 MPH is a treat
The latest Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is a record-breaker. Most powerful Corvette ever? Check. The first factory turbocharged ‘Vette? Boom. Oh, and with more horsepower than a Dodge SRT Demon 170, it’s quite effortlessly one of the fastest Corvettes ever. Sit back and watch the new ZR1 hit over 200 mph without protest.
Watch this musical Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 hit over 200 mph like it’s at home there
Chevrolet says the new 2025 Corvette ZR1 will reach speeds in excess of 215 mph. That’s rarified air for any vehicle, let alone the Kentucky supercar. Just to give you an idea, that’s striking distance from the 217 and 218 mph top speeds of the million-dollar McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder, respectively.
Well, many cars boast serious top speeds. However, seeing, and hearing (for that matter) a brute like the ZR1 hit 200+ mph removes all doubt. General Motors (GM) operates a proving ground in Milford, Michigan with a long enough straight that drivers can perform top speed runs.
In this instance, the test driver rolled onto the straight at around 20 mph. Less than 30 seconds later, the two occupants of the ZR1 were at 200 mph and climbing. All said and done, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 hit 207 mph before coming off the throttle.
Now, getting a car to over 200 mph isn’t easy. To achieve the task, the ZR1 is light, aerodynamic, and, of course, powerful. With over 1,064 horsepower on tap, Chevrolet says the twin-turbocharged flat-plane LT7 V8 is “the most powerful V8 ever produced in America from an auto manufacturer.”
But better than its bragging rights is its bombastic auditory accompaniment. I mean, the ZR1 sings with a Ferrari-esque tenor. I had the opportunity to unleash the Z06 on the track, the ZR1’s naturally aspirated sibling. The sound is something that still lives in my mind rent-free.
Better yet, we have to believe with a single occupant and a longer stretch, the ZR1 will hit that magical 215 mph figure. Check out the video from TheStraightPipes showing the ZR1 smash a run to 207 mph at the GM Proving Grounds below!
