Do you remember when 0-60 times in the five-second range were the benchmark of a car being quick? That’s technically slow by today’s standards, especially considering the standard-issue Honda Accord can get to 60 mph in around 5.5 seconds, and supercars like the Acura NSX can over that same ground in less than three. But when the forthcoming Tesla Roadster was announced in 2017, Elon Musk stunned the world with an announcement that the revised electric sports car will be able to get to the 60 mph mark in just 1.9 seconds.

We can’t imagine how quick the Tesla Roadster will accelerate, but we can visualize it

It’s tough for us to really wrap our minds around just how quickly getting from a standstill all the way up to 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds feels like. But what’s more, the new Roadster will allegedly be able to get up to its top speed of 250 mph in just 20 seconds. That’s really hard to imagine, too. But luckily, we can now visualize all of that speed, thanks to the following video:

Impressive, isn’t it? But don’t get too excited. That video is a CGI representation of what the Tesla Roadster would look like during an all-out acceleration run. The video was made by concept artist, Jordi Pau, and it gives a promising glimpse of what can likely expect when the new Roadster finally arrives.

What else do we know about Tesla’s new Roadster?

Aside from the Tesla Roadster’s blistering performance – which also includes a proposed quarter-mile time of 8.8 seconds – we do know that it will also have a large 200-kWh battery pack that is said to be good for around 620 miles of range. Although, we imagine that you would need to keep your right foot off the floor in order to get close to that number. However, even 400 miles range on a good day still sounds amazing for a performance electric vehicle. We should know the true range numbers as the car gets closer to production.

Otherwise, everything we have seen so far is in concept car form. Car and Driver released some of their findings as well, including the fact that the concept images show that the Roadster will be able to accommodate up to four occupants, although, the rear seats will probably only fit children. It also looks like there will be a removable glass panel roof and the interior has the same minimalist approach that all of the other Tesla models currently have.

When will it be available?

According to Electrek, the new Tesla Roadster, which will be billed as a 2021 model is speculated to be in production in 2021, even though 2020 was originally announced at the unveiling. However, due to Tesla being held up with producing the Model Y and is now setting its sights on building the Cybertruck and make use of everyone’s deposits.

Speaking of pricing, the Tesla Roadster is slated to have a starting price of $200,000, with an additional cost of $50,000 for the limited-edition “Founder’s Series,” in which only 1,000 of those will be produced. So put your deposits in now, the 2021 Tesla Roadster should go from concept to reality soon enough, although probably not in 1.9 seconds.
