We Just Got 2 Crucial Details About the 2024 Toyota Tacoma
Well, folks, it seems like today’s big 2024 Toyota Tacoma reveal is seemingly just a teaser. Meaning that we are not getting a full reveal of the redesigned Tacoma just yet. But, the brand did drop some exciting information about its new midsize truck. Namely, the popular TRD Pro trim will live on, and we are getting a hybrid Tacoma.
What do we know about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma?
We still don’t know much about this new midsize truck, but Toyota revealed a couple more details. In an image shared on the brand’s social media, the tailgate of the redesigned Tacoma can be seen. It sports TRD Pro badging and some other big news.
It looks like the next-gen Tacoma will boast a hybrid powertrain, at least for the TRD model. This likely comes as exciting news for those wondering what will power Toyota’s small truck. This teaser seems to indicate that the twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid, known as the i-FORCE MAX, will be available.
I have first-hand experience with this powertrain, driving it in the Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus LX600 SUV. And frankly, with 437 horsepower and 583 pound-foot of torque, it’s pretty potent. At the same time, the fuel economy that it returns is impressive.
It’s probably likely that Toyota will detune this engine in the case of the redesigned Tacoma. But still, it will certainly be more powerful than the current V6 that is found in this midsize truck.
Is there a TRD Pro Tacoma?
One of the clearer things in this 2024 Toyota Tacoma teaser is the TRD Pro badging. It would be surprising if Toyota decided to kill off this popular trim, but at least we now have confirmation that it will live on.
Also present are more aggressive looks. It seems like the redesigned Toyota Tacoma is taking a page from the current-gen Tundra, and that is a pretty well-designed pickup truck. This midsize truck’s current design is starting to look a bit dated. A fresh look should help Toyota’s small pickup keep up with the competition and bring it more in line with the brand’s current design language.
The Toyota Tacoma is showing its age
Although the 2023 Toyota Tacoma is a new truck, it is starting to feel dated. The interior isn’t on par with some of its rivals, and to some, it might feel underpowered. Still, the Tacoma remains one of the hottest midsize pickups on the market. So clearly, the brand is doing something right.
The 2024 Tacoma teaser we’ve gotten today might not be the full reveal that was expected. But it does give us some new details of what we should expect from a redesigned pickup. According to Car and Driver, it will have aggressive looks, come with a hybrid engine or engines, and the TRD trim lives on.
We don’t necessarily know what the interior will look like, what the other trims will be, or if you can still get this truck with a manual transmission.
