We Want This Prank Ford Truck to Be Real
April Fool’s Day might be over, but I’m still thinking of a convertible Ford Maverick that the folks over at Ford Authority thought up. Over the years, some truck manufacturers have given us pickups with removable roofs. While you might assume that convertible tops are reserved for sporty cars, that’s not always the case. The Blue Oval is probably never going to offer a convertible Maverick truck, but the renderings certainly look cool.
Is the Ford Maverick a convertible?
If you’re looking for a convertible truck, unfortunately, it won’t be in the form of the Ford Maverick. April Fool’s Day is a popular time for auto manufacturers and enthusiasts to design vehicles that don’t exist. Although we often come up with something that we would legitimately like to see.
As a small truck, the Ford Maverick is already a fun vehicle. It comes standard with a hybrid engine, has a fairly quirky interior design, and can be had at an affordable price. I say affordable, but really, how many other new trucks can you get for less than $25k? That answer is not many.
As shown by Ford Authority, a drop-top Maverick truck gives a new level of whimsy to this compact pickup. Even if convertible trucks of the past, like the Chevy SSR, are generally seen as failures. Ford’s small truck has already been extremely successful, and maybe a convertible variant would bring something new to the table.
Will there be a 2024 Ford Maverick?
Undoubtedly there will be a 2024 Maverick. As the Blue Oval’s cheapest new vehicle, this small truck has been extremely popular. It actually feels nearly impossible to buy one at MSRP at this point because demand is so high.
Ford has stated that it will increase the Maverick’s production, which should hopefully allow more folks to get this compact pickup. But there is probably zero to no chance that we see a convertible Ford Maverick put into production. No matter how much some of us might want to see that happen.
What will be new for the 2024 Maverick?
According to MotorTrend, we could see a Maverick hybrid that also features all-wheel drive. Currently, if you want an AWD Maverick, you’ll have to opt for the larger EcoBoost engine. And unfortunately, that means losing out on some of the efficiency that might attract folks in the first place.
In the case of the Hyundai Santa Cruz, both engines are available with AWD. And that variety is pretty nice to see. Moving forward, it would be cool if the Blue Oval did offer an AWD Maverick hybrid.
The other rumor circulating is that a plug-in hybrid Ford Maverick could be coming. We don’t know if this is factual, but Ford has other PHEV models. Including a PHEV Escape, the same SUV that the Maverick is based on.
One thing that looks very unlikely is a production version of a convertible Maverick. It’s entirely possible that, down the line, someone will make the modification themselves. But from the factory? I’m not holding my breath.
