Welcome the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV to America
We have some exciting news! The 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV is officially coming to America! We’ve been keeping an eye on the Kia Sportage PHEV as it zips around European countries, and now you can buy it in the United States!
Is the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV worth buying?
Yes, the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV is an excellent plug-in hybrid vehicle to consider. It provides an excellent fuel economy with an attractive package. The Sportage was just redesigned for 2023 with a modern look and advanced tech.
The Sportage got bigger and is now considered to be a mid-size SUV. It offers more passenger and cargo space than before. It rivals other SUV options like the Hyundai Tucson, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Escape with hybrid and PHEV powertrain options and off-roading trims.
How much power does the Sportage PHEV have?
The 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four engine and an electric motor. According to Car and Driver, the plug-in version gets a larger battery pack and a more powerful electric motor.
It’s expected to provide 32 miles of electric range on a full charge. However, Kia hasn’t revealed the hybrid powertrain’s total output. We can speculate that it’s close to the Kia Sorento PHEV, which provides 261 hp.
The Sportage rides on the N3 chassis like the Sorento and Optima, The Kia EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 use the E-GMPT platform. Also, the Sportage utilizes a six-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive comes standard.
Kia estimates that the 13.8-kWh battery can be fully recharged in about two hours with a Level 2 charger. It should recharge even faster with a DC fast charger. Plus, we hope it can be fully charged overnight with a Level 1 charger.
Sean Yoon, Kia America President, and CEO, shared that as the first Sportage PHEV to be introduced to the United States, it demonstrates how Kia listens to customers who are looking for electrified solutions and super-efficient powertrains. The Kia Sportage delivers on that promise with a sophisticated and refined package.
He continued to explain that as Kia continues to implement our Plan S strategy and push toward carbon neutrality, models like the Sportage PHEV are paving the way.
Does the Kia Sportage have nice features?
Yes, the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV offers a spacious, high-quality interior. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and soft-touch covered surfaces provide a sense of luxury. Also, the two-tone color scheme is unique and attractive.
The Sportage features a 12.3-inch touchscreen along with a 12.3-inch instrument panel. You can add another 12.3-inch touchscreen if you want one long, seamless screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. You can opt for blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
We can’t wait to drive the Kia Sportage PHEV. It’s bringing the heat against rivals like the Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4. If you don’t need three rows, you can save with the new Sportage instead of the Sorento.
