What Are the 5 Best Full-Sized Trucks According to Edmunds?
Compact or midsized trucks are fine for the kinds of truck stuff that most of us do. But some of us just want or need more, so we look to a full-sized truck to get us to the job site, to haul five people in comfort, or to tow and haul. Those of us who have big trucks want a truck that will be reliable, comfortable, and that can get the job done. Edmunds has released its list of the best full-sized trucks for 2023. Which made the list?
No. 1: Ford F-150
Ford proudly says the F-150 full-sized truck is North America’s best-selling truck. While that’s true, Ford has worked to constantly upgrade the model. Today’s Ford F-150 comes in every configuration imaginable, and its newest motors are not just turbocharged but have hybrid boosters, too. The F-150 can be ordered in luxury trim, or work truck trim, and either way they look good doing what you need.
As an aside, the F-150 Lightning all-electric truck was named the best all-electric truck by Edmunds. It beat out rivals like the Rivian R1T for the honor.
No. 2: Ram 1500
The Ram 1500 is less expensive than its rivals, and that helps boost its score. But Ram had made huge strides where it counts: the 1500 rides great, thanks to the independent rear suspension, and its interiors on upper-level trims are hard to beat. For 2023, they get giant screens and keep the 5.7-liter V8, which now comes with a 48-volt electric hybrid booster.
No. 3: Toyota Tundra
The Tundra got a complete redo from Toyota for 2022 and it brought Toyota back from also-ran status to one of the top manufacturers in the full-sized truck game. It’s new turbocharged V6 makes either 348 or 437 horsepower with a hybrid battery. Its specs mirror the F-150’s in many ways, but its styling sure doesn’t. The Tundra has distinctive Toyota styling that sets it apart, whether that’s the $40,000 base SR version or the $78,000 Capstone Hybrid luxury truck.
No. 4: GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra 1500 is leaning into the hot off-road trend for 2023 with a new AR4X AEV Edition version, which adds skid plates, steel bumpers, and special shocks. While that’s the big news for the Sierra, at its core, it’s simply a more luxurious and stylish version of the Silverado. If you like your truck to be efficient, GMC now offers a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that makes as much power as V8s did a few years ago, but you can also order the mighty 6.2-liter V8 with a massive 420 horsepower.
Look for an all-new Sierra in 2024.
No. 5: Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Like the GMC Sierra, the Silverado comes with GMs new engine options. Also, like the Sierra, there’s a new one on the horizon for 2024. Unlike the Sierra, it doesn’t come with that truck’s premium price, and that’s one reason it outsells the Sierra. But the Silverado recently got a refresh that improved the overall truck, especially on the inside, where a new screen and digital gauge cluster give it a new-truck look. The Silverado is a lot of truck, but it’s hard to compete in the ultra-competitive full-sized truck world.
