What Are the Tackiest Celebrity Cars of All Time?
Beauty might be in the eye of the beholder, but you also might imagine that wealthy celebrities would want to buy cars to impress the world. Maybe that’s sometimes their goal, but they may just want to express a big personality through a custom car. In any case, some celebrities have definitely spent a lot of their money on ugly cars. Check out five of the tackiest cars owned by celebrities and see what you think.
Liberace’s Bradley GT
With a nickname of “Mr. Showmanship” and a reputation for flamboyance, you might expect that the performer Liberace would have a super sparkly car. He owned a 1972 Bradley GT painted with a gold metal flake finish and silver candelabra emblems on the sides.
Bradley was a kit car company in operation from the 1960s until 1981. The Bradley GT, which was first sold in 1970, was built on the chassis of the Volkswagen Beetle. You can visit Liberace’s car at the Liberace Garage at the Hollywood Cars Museum in Las Vegas.
Will.i.am’s former Volkswagen Beetle
Believe it or not, this blue custom car first started as a 1958 Volkswagen Beetle. It took about five years and $900,000 to create. Both Austin Weiss at The Garage in Florida and West Coast Customs worked on the project.
The goal was to make a futuristic-looking car, but Will.i.am kept changing his mind about what he wanted and increasing the budget to get it. Normal Beetles were produced from 1938 until 2003, but it wasn’t until 1967 that Beetle became its official name, rather than a nickname. This car barely resembles a Beetle anymore and borrows the look of its custom fenders from a Morgan.
Farrah Fawcett’s Corvette
Farrah Fawcett’s amazing ride was a green custom 1970 C3 Corvette. The “Foxy Vette” was customized by George Barris, who also designed the 1966 Batmobile.
While there were changes to the front and rear of the car, its craziest feature is that the inside of the car is covered in mink. There’s also a rotary phone installed in the dashboard and a tiny TV on the passenger’s side.
Even the handle of the phone seems to be covered in mink. The C3 Corvette was produced from 1968 through 1982. Farrah Fawcett’s car last sold at auction in Scottsdale in 2016.
Dennis Rodman’s Hummer
Retired NBA player Dennis Rodman has been known for a variety of weird things, and his tacky custom 1996 Hummer H1 is just one of them. The paint job features multiple airbrushed naked ladies painted over asphalt patterned paint.
If that weren’t enough, the Hummer also has an amber light bar and a spotlight mounted on the roof, extra lights on the front, and big speakers inside. Both the driver’s and passenger’s doors have a basketball featuring Rodman’s number 91. The Hummer H1 was produced from 1992 to 2006, and some people probably think it’s a tacky car even without the ladies.
Nicki Minaj’s Lamborghini
Lots of people love the color pink, but not everyone wants to drive a Barbie car. Nicki Minaj loves pink so much that, after she spent $400,000 on a 2013 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, she had it painted pink. That includes the side mirrors and custom Forgiato wheels.
At least this way it will match her pink Bentley Continental and pink Range Rover. The paint job apparently cost her an extra $30,000. The pink seems particularly unsuitable since the Aventador is named after a Spanish fighting bull and has a design inspired by the aerospace industry. She’s not the only celebrity with a tacky pink car though. Paris Hilton, Amber Rose, and Mariah Carey all have one too.
