What Cars Were Used in ‘Hobbs & Shaw’?
The Fast and the Furious franchise is beloved by gearheads everywhere for its high-intensity action, chase scenes, and the parade of the most impressive vehicles out there. The newest entry in the series is called Hobbs & Shaw, which incorporates a buddy-cop storyline in the same high-stakes world as the rest of the franchise. And, of course, lots of cool cars.
The film was released almost two weeks ago, so you’re free to go watch the action for yourself. If you can’t make it out to the theater just yet, there are a couple of trailers that showcase some of the cars that will be featured in the movie. The people over at Jalopnik and Motor1 helped us spot a few specific models, in case you were interested in getting one for yourself.
McLaren 720S
One of the highlights of the Hobbs and Shaw trailer was definitely seeing this car nimbly slide under a semi-truck. This mid-engined machine is one of the most popular supercars on the market.
It has a V8 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine that has an output of 710 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque. This engine can get the McLaren from 0 to 60 in just under 3 seconds. Meanwhile, its lightweight structure and advanced suspension make it incredibly smooth and fun to drive. The newest model has an MSRP of $287,245.
Mini Cooper
We can see a Mini Cooper parked in a dark garage in the trailer, but we’re not sure what role it plays in the film. It’s not a race car by any means, but it has an unmistakable appearance that makes it stand out among other cars.
This subcompact vehicle is great for handling winding roads and comes with two engine options, a three-cylinder 1.5 liter capable of 134 hp and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder capable of 228 hp. It’s available in four-wheel drive with either a manual or automatic transmission. As far as new cars go, the Mini Cooper is relatively inexpensive at $21,900.
Range Rover
We saw these cars going head-to-head with a MAN KAT in the Hobbs and Shaw trailer. This large luxury SUV can tackle off-road terrain with impressive performance.
It has a V6 3.0-liter engine capable of 443 lb-ft of torque. Plus, some trims can include a supercharged V8 5.0-liter engine with an output of 254 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. It doesn’t have as much cargo space as some of its competitors, but the seats for passengers are nice and roomy.
Dodge M37
We saw this car being chased by a helicopter and a custom-built Peterbilt truck in one trailer. This car also looks like it may have been customized for the film. Of course, that would make sense because there hasn’t been a new one since the late ’60s.
Dodge started distributing these vehicles in 1951 for service during the Vietnam war. It came with a 6-cylinder L-head engine capable of 78 hp. While long since out of circulation, you may still be able to find one at a government auction.
2020 Jeep Gladiator
Sadly, we only saw a glimpse of the newest Jeep in the Hobbs and Shaw trailer. However, we hope to see more of it in the actual movie. The Gladiator is a two-row pickup truck with great off-roading ability. It doesn’t have the best handling, but the steering is accurate and the suspension upgraded to handle even the rockiest terrain.
It has four-wheel drive and the same V6 3.6-liter engine of the Wrangler. Drivers can choose between a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Its price of $33,545 is a little high for a Jeep, but if you’re an off-roading enthusiast, it’s worth your money.
