Earlier this year, we got our first taste of the next-generation Chevy Colorado. Introduced initially for the 2004 model year, the Chevy Colorado was made to replace the Chevy S10, which had been Chevy’s compact/midsize pickup for years. While the Chevy Colorado was successful as a basic, midsize pickup truck, the Colorado found its calling during its 2nd generation, which is when the Colorado ZR2 was introduced.

The Chevy Colorado ZR2 was the surprise hit of the 2014 LA Auto Show. With the ZR2, the basic Chevy Colorado work truck was transformed into an offroad beast with the look and performance numbers of the true off-road trophy truck. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response from attendees of the LA auto show, the ZR2 was made into a production truck.

With the 3rd generation of the Chevy Colorado announced for the 2023 model year, we are expecting a new trim level, the Chevy Colorado Trail Boss. What can we expect out of this new trim level? Here is everything you need to know about the Chevy Colorado Trail Boss.

What is the Chevy Colorado Trail Boss?

The Trail Boss is a whole new trim level that is going to be offered on the 2023 3rd generation Chevy Colorado. The Trail Boss picks and chooses certain options offered on the top-of-the-line Chevy Colorado ZR2 to make a truck that fits perfectly between the base road-focused Chevy Colorado and the offroading-focused ZR2.

According to Hotcars, the Chevy Colorado Trail Boss comes with only one engine option; a 2.7L Turbo Plus engine that produces an estimated 310 horsepower and 390 lb ft. of torque. This engine is paired with a brand-new 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. While the Colorado ZR2 offers 17-inch wheels with 33-inch tires, the Trail Boss opts for a bigger wheel with an 18-inch aluminum wheel as the only option.

From the factory, the Trail Boss receives a 2-inch lift along with a wider chassis compared to the base Colorado. The Trail Boss also offers an impressive list of selectable drive modes which include, Off-Road, Terrain, Tow/Haul, and Normal drive modes. These electronic drive modes automatically adjust the engine and transmission power for maximum power to fit the situation.

How much does it cost?

According to Car and Driver, the 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss is expected to cost around $43,000 MSRP. While that is pricey for a midmidsizeckup, especially when the low-end trim Colorados are expected to be priced in the $28,000 range, the Trail Boss offers some of the coolest design aesthetics in the Chevy pickup lineup and gives consumers one of the most well-equipped midsized trucks on the market.

This truck offering gives power and capability to the midsize truckmidsize. If you are looking for a smaller truck that punches way above its weight class, look no further than the 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss!
