Fans of supercars love to hear YouTuber Doug Demuro’s take on them. He’s driven almost any supercar you can name and has a huge following for his exhaustive lists of the “quirks and features” in these rare cars. Though the car was announced two years ago, McLaren took longer than Daniel Ricciardo at the Dutch Grand Prix (sorry for the Formula 1 joke, but I can’t resist) to launch the car. But after two years it’s here.

So what does Doug Demuro say the about the $240,00 2023 Mclaren Artura? Will it make his list of investment cars?

Could DeMuro be right that it the 2023 Artura is a $240,000 bargain?

Demuro says the 2023 McLaren Artura is a bargain. “It seems quite impressive,” he said in a new video. Though several have criticized the car for having a V6, DeMuro makes it a point at 22:40 in the video to praise how quick it is. “To anybody complaining about the V6 situation, you’re just wrong,” he said.

It’s also a precise, quick-handling supercar. Though the car starts at about $240,000, DeMuro says it’s actually a value because it delivers hypercar performance at a supercar price.  For those that follow the Doug Score, it scored a 70 out of 100, which places it right between a Ferrari SF90 Stradale and a Porsche 911 GT2RS.

What is the 2023 McLaren Artura?

McLaren made race cars for Formula 1 and IndyCar races for decades before deciding to make road cars. In its 12 years of making road cars, McLaren cars quickly earned a place alongside cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini. Traditionally, McLaren has named its cars after their horsepower figures. The 720S, for example, is so named for its 720 horsepower. But the Artura eschews that, and a lot of other things that it’s been known for.

The first major change for the new car is its engine(s). It has a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a 100-horsepower hybrid booster. In total, it makes 670 horsepower. That’s enough to get it from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds, and to a top speed of more than 205 mph, according to Mclaren. All McLaren road cars to this point have been powered by V8 engines.

Ohh, and it’s a plug-in hybrid. It’s a plug-in hybrid, like the limited-edition Mclaren P1 hypercar and the new Prius. That means that you can drive it in an all-electric mode. It has 11 miles of silent, EV, range. Interestingly, the car can only go in reverse on electric power. So, if you’re out of juice, you can only go forward until you plug it in or somehow regenerate electricity.

The Artura may not have the exotic eye-punching lines of the P1, but it’s not offensive looking. This car seems to be positioned as a restrained exotic, and one that you can drive every day. In fact, it has a long list of features that seem to make it a good proposition as a daily. It has some driver’s aids. Though it has nothing on even a basic Subaru, it does have adaptive cruise control.  

It has scissor doors like Lamborghinis. While some think those doors are just for show, they’re not. they’re designed to open so that don’t curb a door on a car this low. The front axle lifter will get you over tall curbs  and speed bumps, and the gauge cluster offers navigation and more at the flick of a switch.
