The Raptor is designed top to bottom, inside and out for running and romping through the desert. It’s one of the most coveted trucks on the market. If you’re looking to get behind the wheel of one of these, checking out the 2019 model year can save you a bit of money. Not much, but it’s still something. Little changed for the 2020 model year. For a pickup truck like the Ford Raptor, power is key. So, what engine does the 2019 Ford Raptor have?

The Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck is unlike any other truck in production. This truck is created particularly for adventure in wide open spaces. According to Car and Driver, it’s a bit wide, so narrow trails can be a tight (or impossible) squeeze.

Other than that, however, the Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck is one of the most capable machines on the road. Besides for some tweaks to the configuration of technology packages, the Raptor remains unchanged for 2020. So, some folks may find themselves drawn to the 2019 model year in order to save a grand or two.

What are the cab options?

There are two different options for cab size. You can get a 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck with a Super Cab starting for just over $50 grand. For a few thousand dollars more you’ll find yourself in a Super Crew configuration. Either way you’ll enjoy the smooth ride provided by the enhanced suspension system.

What about the engine?

The famed SVT Raptor was the first generation, according to MotorTrend. That means that for every Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck since the year 2015 the V8 is no longer the standard engine. But you don’t lose any power.

The current generation, including the 2019 models year, have a powerful twin-turbo V6 under the hood. According to Ford Media, the high output 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine gets up to 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. It’s the most exciting engine in the F-150 engine lineup and it’s standard equipment for this designated dune hopper.

Why did Ford retire the V8?

“The earliest Raptors came with a weaker 5.4-liter V-8 that was later phased out. The 2014 first-generation SVT Raptor came with a 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 411-horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque.”

The first generation Raptor had that satisfying naturally aspirated V8 sound. However, the modern Ford Performance V6 technology is more fuel efficient. Additionally, it generates a bit more horsepower as well as more powerful torque figures. They are both monsters. Each of the generations of the Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck is worth its salt. The twin-turbo V6 you’ll find in the 2019 model year is more advanced in terms of fuel economy, but you won’t hear the throaty roar of the first-gen models.
