While SUVs were originally designed for the military, times have changed. Now they’re designed for just about anything you could want from a vehicle. Whether you need an SUV to carry your yoga gear or plan on going camping, there’s an SUV for you. 

Chevy, which has catered heavily to the off-roading community in the past, has decided to branch out with the 2020 Blazer. If you’re someone who loves the sporty new look, and you’re thinking of getting a Blazer, here are the standard features courtesy of Chevy.

Under the hood

Let’s start off with the engine. According to Car and Driver, “The Blazer features a standard 193-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or an optional 308-hp 3.6-liter V-6. Both pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission, but only the V-6 is available with all-wheel drive. The front-drive version has sufficient power for getting around town and highway duty.”

This means that if you’re looking for an SUV to cruise through the woods in, the Blazer may not be for you. But if you’re looking for a dependable, great looking vehicle that can handle the stop and go of the city streets, the Blazer is perfect.

The standard powertrain only allows you to tow up to 1,500 lbs, so you’ll be limited in what you can haul. For example, if you plan on hauling a boat to the lake, you might want to reconsider. According to Outdoor Troop, boats can weigh anywhere from 1,700 to 8,800 lbs, so hauling a boat is probably out of the question. You can still tow things like bikes, canoes, and PWCs, however.

The fuel economy is better than many competitors, so if you’re looking for something easy on the pocketbook when you gas up, look no further. The Blazer gets 22 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, so if you have to commute to work, this is definitely one of the better features of the Blazer.

Exterior

SUVs are notorious for looking boxy. There’s nothing wrong with that, especially if you like that style. It’s a tried and true method that works well for many automakers. Chevy decided to step out of the box, however, and go in a different direction. 

In this case, Chevy went with a more Camaro inspired look, according to Edmunds. This can be good and bad. The Blazer looks fresh, sporty, and stands out from the crowd. On the other hand, it has its limitations, as the design creates some major blind spots while driving.

Interior

Kelley Blue Book reports that a lot of thought went into making both the driver and the passengers comfortable while riding in the Blazer. There’s plenty of room, so you won’t feel cramped as you drive hundreds of miles to your favorite vacation spot. 

Passengers riding in the back have climate control vents, so you won’t have to worry about them sweating to death while you get all the air. They can even adjust their seat by reclining if they choose to, making sure that everyone has a good time on the ride.

Infotainment

Let’s face it, anyone who gets a new vehicle wants to know all about the Infotainment system. Part of the joys of driving includes listening to your favorite music, and that’s where the Infotainment system comes in. 

U.S. News reports that the Blazer comes with a standard 8″ touch screen. Considering many vehicles only come with a 5″ screen, and only if you upgrade to a vehicle that costs more, this is pretty cool. Also offered standard is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and four USB ports. Even if you don’t care much about technology, this is great for your passengers who probably do.

Price

According to Chevy, the Blazer starts at $28,800. This includes all of the standard features, so if you want more safety features like back up cameras, you’ll need to upgrade to a more expensive Blazer.
