The Ford Ranger is one of the top-selling, midsize pickup trucks on the market. But with the new, 2020 Ranger hitting the lots, what trims and variants are available? And what kind of features come standard on the 2020 Ford Ranger?

2020 Ford Ranger XL standard features

The base variant of the new Ford Ranger, the XL, has a starting price of $24,410, according to Ford. Like the other two available trims, the XL earns an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. On the exterior, standard features include Halogen daytime-running lights, tow hooks, a manual-locking tailgate, and black-accented bumpers, grille, handles, tailgate, and side mirrors.

The interior has everything you’d imagine, from a 2.3-inch user screen and power doors and windows. As far as entertainment goes, you’ll get the standard AM/FM radio with the Ranger XL, though all Rangers come with Bluetooth capabilities and FordPass Connect with 911 Assist.

According to Ford, the 2020 Ranger XL is powered by a 2.3-liter Ecoboost engine with auto start-stop technology, paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode. It puts out up to 270 hp and can tow up to 7,500 lbs. Depending on body configuration, payload capacity can reach 2,080 lbs. Though rear-wheel drivetrains are standard, four-wheel drivetrains are available.

Trailer sway control and an independent suspension are also standard. The XL comes standard with 16-inch, silver steel wheels, and all-season tires. Rearview cameras come standard on all Rangers, as well as other safety features like curve control, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, and the SOS Post-Crash Alert System.

The Ford Ranger XL comes with a variety of available options and packages, like the STX package, which adds bold styling elements throughout the Ranger. There is also the FX2 package, which adds off-roading performance to the Ranger, with off-road tires, an electronic-locking rear differential, and more.

Available options for the XL include an upgrade to chrome, exterior accents, fog lamps, five-inch running boards, and a power-locking tailgate. You can also upgrade the interior’s productivity screen to 4.2-inches and take advantage of available safety tech like the blind-spot system with cross-traffic alert and a lane-keeping system. Ford SYNC and satellite radio do not come standard on the XL.

The Ranger XLT

If you want an upgrade, the middle-of-the-road Ranger XLT starts at just $28,460 and comes standard with the same engine and transmission as the XL. An upgraded, power-locking tailgate and Halogen fog lights come with every XLT. In addition, the XLT comes standard with 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, and the larger, 4.2-inch productivity screen. It also comes with an 8-inch touchscreen and SYNC 3 technology.

Ford Co-Pilot360’s Reverse Sensing System comes standard on every Ranger XLT, as well as automatic high beams and the lane-keeping system. You’ll also get the SecuriLock passive anti-theft system, remote keyless entry, and Blind Spot Information System.

The XLT has more available options than the XL. In addition to those already listed, you can choose from a variety of personalization options on the exterior with appearance packages, including available chrome running boards and multiple wheel choices. Voice-activated navigation, remote start system, and the XLT Technology package are also available. Off-roading and trailer tow packages are also available.

The Ranger Lariat

You’ll find the same engine, transmission, and drivetrain availability with the Ranger’s highest trim option, the Lariat. And as with the other two variants, towing/payload capacity and fuel-economy are also the same. Starting at $32,500, according to Ford, the Lariat gets all the upgrades the XLT receives and then some. LED lights come standard instead of Halogen and you’ll get a chrome grille. The Lariat also comes standard with power-folding, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signal and security approach lights. You’ll get even-bigger, 18-inch aluminum wheels, as well as all-terrain tires on Lariat 4x4s.

The Ford Ranger Lariat comes with both Reverse and Forward Sensing Systems and intelligent access technology with push-button start. The interior comes standard with upgraded, dual 4.2-inch productivity screens, ambient lighting, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Leather-trimmed, heated seats are also standard.

In addition to being able to choose from almost all other packages, the Lariat is available with a Sport Appearance package, as well as the Lariat Chrome Appearance Package that changes almost every accent into chrome. More wheel and tire choices are available, as well as optional rain-sensing wipers and a universal garage door opener. There are also multiple audio/speaker options.
