Imagine you’re dining at a fancy restaurant and are browsing the menu, only to find you like everything you see. To help you decide, you also consider what’s included with each entree selection, right? Knowing what automatically comes with the main dish can sometimes help you choose.

Now imagine you’re truck shopping.

We took a closer look at the 2020 Sierra 2500. With so many amazing options, trim levels, and configurations, we thought it might make the decision-making process a little tough. Today, we’ll uncover the standard features for the Sierra 2500 HD. Knowing what automatically comes with it might help you decide.

Sierra 2500 HD got a makeover

For 2020, GMC opted for a complete redesign for the Sierra 2500 HD. You can expect increased towing and hauling capacities from previous generations, along with a serious upgrade to the interior and tech. GMC even got in on the tailgate redesign trend in offering its six-function MultiPro tailgate. If it’s been a while since you’ve driven a Sierra 2500, it’s definitely worth doing so again.

Even the base model standard equipment isn’t too shabby

Just looking at the base model 4×4 Crew Cab, the Sierra 2500 HD is well equipped. Enjoy a 6.6-liter V-8 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission to start. You get a 6.75-foot box bed and 17″ silver steel wheels. It comes standard with a vinyl bench seat. The base Sierra may not be as fancy as the Denali, but it certainly is a lot of truck considering.

Safety for all

In building out the Sierra 2500 HD of your dreams, you might want to include some of the newer driver assistance features. It may be helpful to know what safety and assistance extras come standard, first. You can then add in the trim levels or packages that offer the additional options for driver convenience.

Standard safety:

  • Six Airbags – Protection for both driver and passengers.
  • Hitch Guidance – Great for any towing you plan to do.
  • LED daytime running lamps – Essential feature for visibility.
  • Rear vision camera – Never lose sight of what’s behind you.
  • StabiliTrak (electronic stability with traction control) – Can’t tackle inclement conditions without it.
  • Teen Driver – Safety controls you didn’t know you needed for regulating your secondary drivers.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System – Track your optimum tire pressure through all seasons and driving conditions.

The menu of convenience, tech, and infotainment is long. You can build out your Sierra 2500 HD with all the connectivity you need. Some of the basics already come standard, such as a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth pairing capabilities, GMC Infotainment System with color touchscreen, and power windows and doors with express-down functions. With each trim level upgrade, you can enhance your cabin experience with available options to add to these.

Choosing the best-fit configurations

With the GMC Sierra 2500 HD, there is a wide range of configurations from which to choose. How you plan to use your Sierra will help you narrow down some of the key elements first. For example, do you need 2WD or 4WD? You’ll want to select a cab size based on how many people you plan to fit. Engine sizes and towing capacities are important should you expect to work with your truck. Sierra 2500 HD also offers both 6’9″ standard beds or available 8′ beds. Once you decide on these basic must-haves, you can determine which trim level puts the icing on the cake.

SLE & SLT – Offering Allison 10-speed automatic transmission with available 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8

Sierra HD AT4 – Take the SLE and add off-road suspension, skid plates, and all terrains for maximum fun off-pavement.

Sierra HD Denali – Bring on the luxury, including heated and ventilated leather seats and steering wheel.

Don’t be overwhelmed with all the available options out there. In today’s truck segment, people use their HDs in a variety of lifestyles and working environments. It’s comforting to know that GMC considered those variations when redesigning the Sierra 2500 HD for 2020. You’re almost guaranteed to build out a truck you’ll love.
