What Features come Standard on the Lincoln Aviator?
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator has had a rocky start so far. Like the newest Ford Explorer, this SUV is prone to a multitude of performance issues. Assembly problems with both vehicles have led to many dissatisfied customers and safety concerns. In some cases, Ford has failed to fix the affected vehicles.
As a result, many have already written off the Aviator as a failure. However, there are still some areas where the Aviator shines. It has an upscale interior and plenty of the latest technology offerings. Should potential buyers give it another chance? Let’s take a look at the Aviator’s standard features and find out.
A powerful engine comes standard
The base Aviator features a standard twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine. It produces 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the best engines in its class. While the automaker hasn’t released any acceleration figures, Car and Driver estimates that it can hit 60 mph in just five seconds. The V6’s power makes the Aviator feel light on the road despite its large size.
Rear-wheel drive is standard with available all-wheel-drive. The engine is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission for the smoothest driving experience. The Grand Touring trim also comes standard with a 100 hp electric motor that works alongside the V6. This brings the Aviator’s power up to 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque.
The Aviator’s standard infotainment features
As far as technology goes, the Aviator definitely earns its luxury price tag. Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system is standard, with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The graphics are crisp and the system itself is highly user-friendly. There’s another touchscreen located in the second row. It’s only half the size, but it allows backseat passengers to set their own audio and climate controls.
Smartphone integration is standard for both Apple and Android devices. Other infotainment highlights are Bluetooth, a ten-speaker audio system, satellite radio, and even a Wi-fi hotspot. A few USB ports are inside the Aviator, as well as a traditional power outlet.
The Aviator is a comfortable ride
Even in the standard model, the Aviator’s interior is supremely cozy. The synthetic leather seats are ventilated, heated, and come with 10-way adjustability. The driver’s seat has memory foam filling for even more comfort. The standard model also has an available “Interior Elements” package. This bundle supplies heating to the steering wheel and second-row seats.
All of the seats are exceptionally plush, but MotorTrend pointed out that the rows are too narrow. Their review also noted that third-row headspace is too limited for taller passengers. Still, the Aviator’s base suspension is stable enough for most situations. If you’re a frequent off-roader, you can upgrade to an adaptive or air-glide suspension.
The Aviator’s standard safety and security features
Safety is a top priority for most SUV buyers because of their large families. The standard Aviator has the Lincoln Co-Pilot360 driver’s assistance suite, which includes plenty of features to satisfy these customers. It has automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, and lane-changing assistance.
Parking sensors are standard, plus a rearview camera with a wiper. Driver drowsiness warning is also included, which can detect erratic driving behavior and help prevent accidents. Extra security features, like privacy glass and a locking glovebox, help drivers feel more at ease when leaving the vehicle.
The Aviator is a promising SUV with a lot of good features. However, due to its production issues, some customers haven’t even received their car yet. Ford stated that the assembly plant problems have been resolved and also issued two recalls for the vehicle. Hopefully, this will improve the Aviator’s reputation and fix most of the reported problems.
