But what is it that makes the Ascent the rankings climber it is? Here’s everything you can expect to get with a new Subaru Ascent.

The 2020 Subaru Ascent: standard specs and what’s new 

According to Subaru, the newest Ascent comes with its brand-encompassing, standard all-wheel-drive that’s been improved for “exceptional stability, impressive efficiency, and a quick response to driving conditions.” Exceptional, standard all-wheel-drive is what Subaru has been come to be known for, after all. But the all-wheel-drive of today’s Subarus is also paired with standard X-MODE, “which optimizes the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system for maximum traction on slippery surfaces.”

The 2020 Ascent also comes standard with Subaru’s turbocharged, Boxer engine that delivers 260 hp and can travel more than 500 miles on the highway. That’s because the Subaru Ascent can get up to 27 MPG; making it one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in its segment. All Subaru Ascents are built with 8.7-inches of ground clearance, 19 cup/bottle holders, and standard seating for up to eight people with a second-row bench. As an addition to its cargo-hauling capabilities, all Subaru Ascents come with standard raised roof rails.

The interior of the 2020 Subaru Ascent is spacious, with up to 153.5 cubic feet of passenger volume, as well as standard underfloor storage. A standard 6.5-inch infotainment STARLINK system comes standard with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and more. The 2020 Subaru Ascent also comes loaded with the brand’s well-known EyeSight safety system that includes standard safety features like “forward automatic emergency braking, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, and a head-up display,” according to U.S. News. Also included as standard safety equipment is a rearview camera and new-for-2020, rear-seat reminder alert.

Subaru Ascent trim levels and pricing

According to Subaru, the base 2020 Ascent has a starting price of $31,995. But there are three other trim levels available: the Premium, which starts at $34,395, the Limited, which starts at $39,345, and the Touring, with a starting price of $45,045. But with every higher trim, comes higher standard features and options.

As if Subaru’s long list of standard safety features isn’t enough, owners can also opt for additional features like a rear-vision mirror camera, front-view camera, lane change assist, rain-sensing windshield wipers, blind-spot monitoring, cornering headlights, and reverse automatic emergency braking. The STARLINK Safety and Security system is also available to higher trim levels, which offers an array of connected services to help protect you and your Ascent.

Standard towing capacities increase with higher trim levels, with Premium, Limited, and Touring models all achieving a 5,000-lb towing capacity, as well as an available trailer hitch and 277 lb-ft of torque. And the second row can be changed into available captain’s chairs and seating for seven, which comes standard on the Touring model and available to Premium and Limited trims. A panoramic moonroof also comes as an option for Premium and Limited variants and standard on the Touring. Also standard on the Limited and Touring models, but only available as an option to Premium models, is a power rear gate that can open, close, and lock with a single touch.

Premium, Limited, and Touring variants come with standard Wi-Fi capability, while Subaru’s Starlink Entertainment package is available on any trim. This package is designed to make any trip a breeze, including two each of Apple iPads, Bluetooth headphones, and iPad cases. Other available options include voice navigation and an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen.
