What Ford F-150 Lightning Owners Love Most About Their Truck
Ford seems to have a hit on its hands with the F-150 Lightning. Owners who were able to get their hands on the coveted truck were recently asked to give their opinions. Here’s a look at what owners liked most about their F-150 Lightning.
This is what J.D. Power’s owner survey found
Every year, J.D. Power sends out a survey to thousands of car owners that asks them how they feel about their new car. In order to qualify for the survey, owners must be verified that they in fact own their car, and they must’ve owned their car for at least 90 days.
In addition to questions about their basic demographics, the survey also asked owners to rank how their car did in 10 categories.
The demographic data has some interesting insights about the Ford F-150 Lightning and its owners. 89% of car shoppers who buy a new truck in the segment are men, and that’s much higher than the industry average. The median age of car shoppers who buy a new truck is 56 years, which is slightly higher than the industry average of 54 years.
The real meat of this survey, however, is the part where owners rank their cars in those 10 categories. The categories that the Lightning didn’t do well on were related to its infotainment system, its fuel economy, its driving comfort, setting up and starting the truck, and getting in and out of the truck.
What Ford F-150 Lightning owners love the most about their electric truck
On the other hand, Lightning owners liked how safe they felt when they drove the car. This isn’t surprising, since the Ford truck is large and that provides some safety benefits. Ford also gave the Lightning a lot of smart safety features, and those should help prevent accidents.
Owners also liked the truck’s interior design, as well as its powertrain and how it feels to drive. The F-150 Lightning gets two electric motors as standard, and they generate 452 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque.
Owners can upgrade their electric truck’s horsepower output to 580 hp as well. Even without that upgrade, the standard Lightning can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. That’s very fast acceleration for a full-size pickup truck, so it’s not surprising that owners enjoy that aspect of the electric truck.
The category that owners loved the most about the F-150 Lightning, however, was its exterior styling. This is an area that is hard to judge, as most people can’t agree on what looks good or what doesn’t. But in the case of the Lightning and electric trucks in general, this actually makes a lot of sense.
It makes a lot of sense that exterior styling was at the top
A lot of potential car owners will shop with their eyes, as few people want to buy an unattractive car. That makes the external styling category an important category to do well on, but interestingly enough, the Lightning did well on it while looking very normal. In fact, that may be an intentional decision by Ford, since one of the better-known electric trucks is currently the Tesla Cybertruck.
The Cybertruck has a unique look, and it definitely looks different than every other truck option that’s on the market. Instead of doing something like that, Ford opted to make the Lightning look almost identical to the regular F-150. As such, the Lightning provides owners with a stylish and familiar truck that’s also fully electric.
