While many full-size trucks on the market focus on towing capacities, payloads, and off-road capabilities, the Nissan Titan can brag about safety. In fact, when it comes to standard safety features, the Nissan Titan offers the most. While it may be the safest pickup on the road, it’s not necessarily the most popular with consumers.

For those who do put more emphasis on safety when buying a new truck, here is the healthy roster of standard equipment the Nissan Titan brings to the table.

Standard safety features at every level

Upgrades in safety happen for every trim of the 2020 Nissan Titan lineup. Last year’s model offered six airbags and two seat belt pretensioners. New this year, drivers and passengers will have eight airbags and four pretensioners for added protection. Also standard is the class-exclusive Rear Automatic Braking (RAB) and Rear Door Alerts (RDA).

The best driver assistance technology comes standard

While other full-size trucks offer the various driver assistance features at mid or upper-level trims, the 2020 Nissan Titan provides its Safety Shield 360 at every level.

This suite of intelligent driver aids includes pedestrian detection with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alerts. It also brings other must-have features like lane departure warning systems and high beam assist.

The available advanced safety tech features

Beyond the standard driver assistance features, and depending on how you plan to use your full-size truck, Nissan makes it easy to add in the extra technologies. Intelligent forward-collision warnings, intelligent Around View monitoring, and intelligent cruise are just a few of the available options.

The Around View monitoring is great for providing a bird’s eye view of the truck from all angles, making parking and maneuvering tight spaces a breeze. The tech also includes a moving object detection system that warns the driver of detected moving objects with a visual depiction on screen and a warning chime.

For anyone with little ones running around, habitual city life and daily parking, or routine towing and hauling, these extra features can make life with the Nissan Titan safer.

What the experts say about safety

Neither the IIHS nor the NHTSA has officially rated the 2020 Nissan Titan just yet. But, knowing that both safety organizations gave last year’s Titan model four stars and ‘good’ ratings is a helpful start.

Those consumers with car seats to manage will appreciate the ‘acceptable’ ratings for standard child safety anchors (LATCH) and ease of use, too. Last year’s scores might be an indication that this year’s safety-improved model should rank even higher.

With the additional airbags and standard driver assistance features, the 2020 Nissan Titan is heading into the crash test ratings with a healthier roster of equipment to evaluate.

Struggling to keep up with the competition

Despite the Nissan Titan’s bragging rights in safety standards, the pickup can’t seem to break ahead of the more popular Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado with some consumers. It doesn’t mean it’s any less of a truck.

But it may point to the fierce loyalty of Ford and Chevy owners, unwilling to stray from their beloved badges, even if another full-size truck has more standard safety features. If you’re truck shopping and not particular about which brand sits in your driveway, so much as you are about performance and safety, the truck worth test-driving is the Nissan Titan.

If you’re looking for the perfect full-size truck for work, play, or trailblazing, the Nissan Titan may be your safest choice. It can bring the powerful engine, comfortable seating, and infotainment tech most others can offer, but it bests the competition in at least one category. When it comes to building a safe truck, Nissan clearly makes protection a standard, not an option.
