The GMC Sierra 1500 is a popular full-size pickup. From work trucks to leather-clad around-towners, the Sierra has long been a staple in the truck world. However, these days, pickup trucks have gotten so expensive that many Americans have given up trying to find the best pickup truck for their needs and instead are simply looking for pickup trucks they can afford. With that in mind, we are going to take a look at the cheapest GMC Sierra 1500 trim: The GMC Sierra Pro.
How much is the cheapest GMC Sierra trim?
The base model GMC Sierra 1500 Pro starts at $37,445. This isn’t a small number for a base model truck. One of the things most publications will agree on about the GMC Sierra is that the line runs pretty pricy. As with most full-size pickup trucks, the GMC Sierra has a pile of trims available. In total, the Sierra comes in eight trims, all with various cab, engine, and bed configurations.

As you can see, the price range between trims is pretty extreme. The price difference between the base model 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro and the top-tier 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ulitmate is a staggering $46,995. This means you could get two base-model GMC Sierras for the price of one top-trim Sierra.
Is the cheapest GMC Sierra 1500 trim worth it?
The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro comes standard with quite the proper little turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder, making 310 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, you can bump up the power with an optional 5.3-liter V8. The base model Sierra comes configured as a standard bed and regular cab. The one real killer of the base model is the 2WD driveline.
While GMC makes some very high-end truck interiors, the base model Pro isn’t where you’ll find the plush luxury interiors of the higher-trim models. In our review of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, Allison Barfield tested the AT4X trim, which has a much finer interior than the Pro. Given the price difference between the two models, the Pro’s more spartan interior is an easy sacrifice for many to make. Overall, the base model Sierra 1500 is still pretty expensive, making it a bit of a tough pill to swallow.
When we look at the GMC Sierra lineup, there is no shortage of quality work trucks and luxury vehicles alike. From the off-road AT4 trucks to the Denali options, GMC makes a fine truck. It’s just unfortunate that the market is such that a base-model work truck can still cost $40k.
