Dodge was one of the first innovators on the modern muscle car scene, producing the Polara sedan all the way back in the ’60s. The Charger and Challenger wouldn’t be far behind, and even this automaker’s SUVs have unbeatable performance appeal. However, only one of these models can hold the title of the quickest car ever made by Dodge. 

Enter the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170

This Dodge Challenger is the final entry in the Last Call series, a collection of models specifically made to honor the iconic Hemi V8. Under the hood of the SRT Demon 170, that engine has been tuned to produce a blistering 1,025 hp and 945 lb-ft of torque. The last SRT Demon model, which made its exit in the 2020 model year, makes a relatively conservative 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque. 

Horsepower levels vary depending on the ethanol content of the gas. Still, even if you fill up the SRT Demon with premium fuel, it’s still capable of 900 hp and 810 lb-ft of torque. 

According to CarHP, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 has a top speed of 215 mph. This new Demon has also officially broken the record for the fastest 0-60 time ever achieved by a production car. It needs just 1.66 seconds to reach that speed, breaching the quarter-mile mark in under nine seconds. 

CarPro reports that the V8’s supercharger has been optimized with 30% more airflow and 40% more boost pressure. The fuel injectors put out a whopping 164 gallons per hour (more than most conventional showerheads) and the cylinder pressure has been increased by 32%. 

This Dodge Challenger Demon has a slew of other upgrades, such as Mickey Thompson drag radial tires and an exclusive drag mode suspension. The TransBrake 2.0 system allows drivers to set their own custom torque outputs. The vehicle also rides on carbon fiber wheels and is the first production car to have staggered fender flares (per PR Newswire). 

How does this Dodge Challenger compare to other supercars?

The SRT Demon 170 is both faster and more powerful than a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, which makes 986 hp and has a top speed of 211 mph. For reference, the fastest Lambo is the 2019 Huracan Performante Spyder, which has a top speed of 202 mph made possible by a 630-hp V10.

The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is considered to be the fastest car in the world, thanks to its top speed of 330 mph. However, even this hypercar needs 2.5 seconds to reach 60 mph.

Where can you buy the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170?

This Dodge Challenger understandably had a very limited production run of just 3,300 units in the United States. It was priced at $96,666 without any accessories attached, so even adding a sunroof could boost its price to the triple digits. The last purchase slot was bought at a charity auction at the end of June for $700,000.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 may depreciate over time, but it’s far from a practical vehicle purchase. Given its impressive specs, not just any driver can even handle a car like the Demon. In fact, buyers had to sign a waiver claiming responsibility to keep all of the vehicle’s mechanical workings in good condition. 

Even by Dodge standards, the Challenger SRT Demon 170 is truly an impressive car. Engineering and fine-tuning all these huge upgrades couldn’t have been an easy task, but the automaker pulled it off with flying colors. We can’t think of a better car to signal the end of the Hellcat era, and it gives us hope for Dodge’s upcoming electric muscle cars.
