To many enthusiasts, Porsche offers the dreamiest models. The carmaker’s Porsche 911 is one of the few examples of sustained success, and its all-electric Taycan is further proof of its eminence. But as shoppers often wonder: what is Porsche’s best-selling vehicle?

Porsche’s best-selling model is surprising, but not really 

As we just mentioned, the 911 is what attracted many enthusiasts to Porsche. Nevertheless, the German-based carmaker’s current best-seller strays from the brand’s original identity. For the last few years, Porsche’s top-selling vehicle is the Macan.

The Macan is Porsche’s compact SUV and competes with the likes of the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5. Porsche first introduced the Macan for the 2015 model year. Despite some skepticism, the Macan was an instant hit.

 The Macan became Porsche’s best-selling model in 2016. In 2019, Porsche sold 22,667 Macan models, according to GoodCarBadCar. By the end of Q3 2020, Porsche sold 13,209 Macans. 

Performance is obviously a huge selling point 

What makes the Macan so magnetizing is its balance of excellent performance and practicality. So basically, the Macan is indulgent and practical at the same time. Because of this,  Consumer Reports  says the Macan puts most of its competition to shame. 

“For all its commitment to performance, the Macan still manages to deliver a measure of utility. Standard all-wheel drive and all-season tires make it a viable four-season vehicle, and the split-folding rear seats add cargo versatility. There’s room for five friendly passengers in the quiet, luxurious, and impeccably finished interior, with comfortable and well-shaped seats up front.”

The current Macan comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 248-hp. This turbo-four is pleasant and makes for a fun everyday drive. Step up to the Macan S, and you get a 348-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Critics especially like the Macan S because it offers more flair and personality. Additionally, the Macan has two high-performance variants: the Macan GTS and the Macan Turbo. 

What types of features does the Porsche Macan offer?

As Consumer Reports said, the Macan impresses with its luxurious and efficient car cabin. It comes standard with a mixture of leather and suede interior; you have to upgrade for an entirely leather interior. You also have to upgrade for amenities, including heated seats and a heating steering wheel. 

Regarding in-car tech, this Porsche is also pretty simple. Standard infotainment features on the 2020 model include a 10.9-inch touchscreen, navigation, and satellite radio. A few active safety features are also standard, including lane departure warning and front and rear parking sensors. 

Optional safety features include a surround-view camera and blind-spot monitoring. You can also add Apple CarPlay and wireless charging for more connectivity. As you can tell, Porsche doesn’t give much away on the Macan. On a brighter note, the Macan has earned impressive reliability scores.

You could say that the Macan’s predicted reliability scores is what makes it a more practical choice. Consumer Reports gave the 2020 Macan an above-average rating for dependability. The Macan’s reliability factor contributes to its #1 rating as CR’s best luxury compact SUV of 2020.
