There may not be anything as wild as the 808-horsepower Dodge Demon or the 1020-horsepower Tesla Model S Plaid in the Chevrolet lineup, but that doesn’t mean the lineup doesn’t have a few quirks. 2023 Malibu RS: the quirkiest model in Chevy’s lineup

The Chevy Malibu on its own is not quirky. In fact, it is probably the most boring sedan on the market today. It makes the Toyota Camry look exciting. The 2023 Malibu is an old vehicle, one of the oldest on the market today.

The 2023 model is essentially a simplified version of the same Malibu that has been in production since the 2016 model year. While the 2016 Malibu had some interesting engine options, it is now down to just one engine option which is mated to an anemic CVT transmission.

However, the Malibu RS takes this anemic, basic, rental car-like sedan and adds plastic trim pieces to make it look aggressive. According to Chevrolet, the Malibu RS comes with 18-inch, low-profile aluminum wheels, black Chevy bowtie emblems, black Malibu badges, a black grille with chrome trim, and a rear spoiler.

This is finished with a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a synthetic leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Malibu is a safe, affordable sedan, and the Malibu RS tries to make this sedan sporty with some black plastic trim pieces, despite the fact it only produces around 160 horsepower.

Most of Chevy’s lineup is pretty straightforward

Despite the Malibu RS’ goofy attempt at being sporty, the Chevrolet lineup is fairly straightforward. The Malibu is a cheap affordable sedan, the Trax is a fantastic entry-level SUV, the Trailblazer gives consumers a smaller, all-wheel drive alternative to the Trax, and the Silverado and Colorado make up the brand’s truck offerings.

Being built off of the Silverado truck platform are the Tahoe and Suburban, two SUVs that have defined the body-on-frame SUV. When it comes to sports cars, Chevrolet seems to be all in on its Corvette as the future of its sporty offerings. This comes with a price, however, as the Camaro is going to be discontinued soon, following suit with the soon-to-be-discontinued Dodge Challenger.

Despite the Chevrolet lineup being somewhat basic, it is one of the U.S.’s most successful and reliable car companies.

While it is exciting to see car companies take risks with their offerings, Chevrolet seems to make its lineup simple on purpose. By offering reliable, predictable vehicles that appeal to a worldwide market, the lineup continues to sell incredibly well.
