What Is the Most Expensive Volvo?
The XC60 two-row midsize SUV is the most popular model in Volvo’s lineup. However, it isn’t the most expensive Volvo. That distinction goes to the XC90. This three-row midsize SUV comes in various versions. So, how does the base trim compare to the priciest XC90 model? Let’s take a look.
What does the Volvo XC90 offer?
This luxury SUV’s entry-level version has a mild-hybrid powertrain. The XC90 offers three trims: Core, Plus, and Ultimate.
The base-level Core starts at $57,195. Its hybrid motor pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. This model also has 19-inch wheels, start/stop technology, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, and Sirius XM Satellite Radio.
Next is the mid-range Plus, riding on 20-inch wheels. It adds a panoramic roof, tinted rear windows, linear walnut interior trim, illuminated sill molding, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and an integrated booster cushion for extra protection. This trim starts at $61,095.
The range-topping Volvo CX90 is the Ultimate. Expect 21-inch wheels, a head-up display, a Harman Kardon premium sound system, a crystal gear selector, Nappa leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats. Volvo starts the Ultimate at $70,595.
In addition, XC90 shoppers can choose from B5 and B6 powertrains. B5 comprises a 2.0-liter engine and a hybrid motor, producing 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This version can go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. Meanwhile, B6 generates 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. It takes only 6.4 seconds to reach 60 mph.
What do you get with the most expensive Volvo?
The most expensive Volvo is the XC90 Recharge, starting at $71,900. Like the mild-hybrid version, the Recharge plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) offers three equipment levels: Core, Plus, and Ultimate.
Core starts at $73,095. It has start/stop technology, a panoramic glass roof, 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, a humidity sensor, an air purifier, and four years of free access to Google services.
Then there’s Plus, starting at $74,795. This XC90 Recharge trim has headlight cleaners, a remote key, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, an integrated booster cushion for small children, and front, rear, and side parking sensors.
Volvo starts the top-tier Ultimate at $80,795. That brings 21-inch wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, ash-gray decor, front seat ventilation, a head-up display, and power four-way lumbar support seats.
The XC90 Recharge’s plug-in hybrid setup harnesses 455 hp and 523 lb-ft of torque. It can zoom from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds flat. It also achieves excellent fuel economy of about 58 MPGe and can go about 32 miles on electric power alone. An eAWD system is standard.
How does the most expensive Volvo compare to other models in the lineup?
Another expensive Volvo model is the V60 Recharge, with a base MSRP of $71,250. This electrified wagon also comes in one upgraded trim — Polestar Engineered — starting at $72,545.
The V60 Recharge Polestar Engineered provides many of the same amenities as the other Volvo models but adds several Polestar-engineered features. For instance, its grille, 19-inch alloy wheels, chassis, and Brembo brakes tout Polestar engineering.
So, how does the V60 Recharge’s price compare to the XC90 Recharge’s MSRP? The next most expensive Volvo model costs about $8,000 less than the range-topping XC90 Recharge.
Because of all its upgrades, the XC90 Recharge also costs about $15,000 over the standard model. The XC90 Ultimate and XC90 Recharge Ultimate trims are also quite different and have an almost $10,000 difference.
Of all the vehicles in the brand’s lineup, the XC90 Recharge is the most expensive Volvo. The V60 Recharge wagon is also pricey, but not as much as its larger sibling.
