The Ford F-150 continues to be America’s best-selling truck. For starters, the F-150 offers seven trims with lots of technology, luxury options, and engine choices. Another reason for its popularity is its comfort. Here’s a look at what makes it the most comfortable truck.

The 2020 Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 gives buyers lots of options. In 2020, the seven trims are XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Raptor, Platinum, and Limited. The top three are luxury options, and the Raptor is designed for off-road driving.

These trims come with different cab sizes, bed lengths, and engine options. The cab comes in Regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew configurations, and the bed lengths are 5.5 feet, 6.5 feet, and 8.0 feet. Buyers can also pick from six engine possibilities, which come with either a six-speed or a 10-speed transmission. In addition to all these practical options, the F-150 includes lots of options for entertainment, safety, and driver-assist features.

Consumer Reports comparisons

Consumer Reports took a look at 27 of the 2020 trucks and their owners’ satisfaction in several categories: driving experience, comfort, value, and styling. CR also asked if owners would buy the truck again. Of the 20 full-size trucks on the list, the Ford F-150 comes in highest in the comfort category. Consumer Reports rated the 2020 F-150 an 81 out of 100 for overall comfort. Other full-size trucks with the highest rating for comfort include the Ford F-350, Ram 1500, and Ram 1500 Classic.

Despite the high comfort rating, Consumer Reports gave the F-150 a two out of five for ride quality, which looks at how well the suspension prevents a bumpy ride. This is one of the F-150’s lower ratings, and Consumer Reports described the ride as “jumpy and unsettled.”

There’s lots of room inside and outside

A number of the interior features were highly rated. There’s lots of room in both the front and rear seat areas of the Ford F-150. The Consumer Reports rating for front-seat comfort – how comfortable the front seat is for drivers of different heights – is four out of five. The truck also gets a five out of five for the roomy size of the cargo area in the bed.

Driving position rates how well the truck can be adjusted for drivers of different heights, and the F-150 received a four out of five. The Ford F-150 has optional power-adjustable pedals, which make it possible to adjust for various drivers’ sizes. All trims also have a tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, and the two features make the truck a good fit for shorter drivers.

The interior of the Ford F-150 is quiet and comfortable

There’s a choice between a front bench seat and two bucket seats in the Ford F-150. Consumer Reports says the bucket seats feel “like sitting on a couch.” However, they are more “squishy” than supportive. Except for the base trim, the others have a two-way power lumbar adjustment feature. The optional leather seats do provide more support.

The rear seat comfort got a top score of five out of five. This category checks how comfortable it is for two people to sit in the back seat. It’s relatively easy for people of different sizes to get in or out of the front and back seats. Both categories received four out of five. Many of the luxury features become available as options on the Lariat trim, including leather upholstery and power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats.

Consumer Reports rated the Ford F-150 an excellent five out of five for cabin noise, describing the interior as “almost silent.” There’s very little wind or road noise to be heard inside.

The truck has a three out of five rating for the interior fit and finish category, looking at the interior quality and craftsmanship. However, with seven trims, the interior finishes vary quite a bit. Real wood interior trim is available on the King Ranch trim. Six of the seven trims (not including the XL) have an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Consumer Reports gave the climate system features a three out of five, but the available options vary across trims. Dual-zone automatic climate control is available starting on the Lariat trim. Higher trims, starting with the King Ranch, offer a heated steering wheel.

While the 2020 Ford F-150 can be customized to fit your personal needs from work truck to luxury vehicle, Consumer Reports rates this as a really comfortable truck.
