Midsize trucks are great options for Americans who want a truck but don’t need something that’s too big. And in the midsize truck segment, there are many options for Americans to choose from, such as the Toyota Tacoma or the Chevy Colorado. But which midsize truck has the most standard safety features of them all? 

The Honda Ridgeline has the most standard safety features of any midsize truck

According to Consumer Reports, the answer to that question is the Honda Ridgeline. This shouldn’t be a surprise for Honda fans but also for truck fans in general. Honda is an automaker that’s well-known for its safety. As a result of that reputation, many Hondas not only have great crash test ratings, but they also come with many standard safety features.

On top of that, most pickup trucks in American markets have a very basic standard version. That’s because the basic version of a pickup truck is usually sold as a work truck. A work truck is a simple truck that does everything trucks are known for doing, not more and not less. But Honda, when it designed the Ridgeline, wanted to make something better than that. 

The Honda Ridgeline’s standard safety features

Honda knows that many Ridgeline owners are Honda fans. As a result, the standard version of the Ridgeline had to be as safe as any other Honda car was. And that means that, along with performing well in its crash tests, the basic version of the Ridgeline also had to have many standard safety features. 

That’s why Consumer Reports said that the Ridgeline has the most standard safety features in the midsize truck segment. Not only did it just simply have a lot of standard safety features, but many of its competitors barely had any standard safety features to begin with. 

Honda spared no expense when it came to which standard safety features came with the Ridgeline, either. Consumer Reports said that the Ridgeline comes standard with: forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a pedestrian detection system, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. 

In comparison, only the Toyota Tacoma and the Ford Ranger had any standard safety features. Other midsize trucks, such as the Jeep Gladiator and the Chevy Colorado, had no standard safety features to speak of. In addition to that, some of the standard safety features that the Ridgeline has, such as lane keep assist, aren’t even options for several of its competitors. 

Just a good truck overall 

This is a similar story for other aspects of the Ridgeline. Consumer Reports praised the Ridgeline a lot and that’s why the Ridgeline tops other midsize trucks in Consumer Reports’ overall rating. The Ridgeline had an overall rating of 76 out of 100, which is higher than the Ford Ranger’s second-place rating of 65 out of 100 and much higher than the Toyota Tacoma’s third-place rating of 47 out of 100.

There are a lot of reasons why the Ridgeline is considered such a good truck by Consumer Reports, and its safety is just one of those reasons. Another reason why the Ridgeline is so well-reviewed is because of its unique design. It has a unibody design, which very few pickup trucks have. As a result of this design, the Ridgeline provides a very smooth and comfortable ride.

Furthermore, its 3.5-liter V6 engine is not only powerful enough to tow about 5,000 lb of cargo, but it’s also decently fuel-efficient. The Ridgeline has a fuel economy of 13 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on highways. This means that the Ridgeline’s 280-hp V6 engine gets a combined fuel economy of 20 MPG. 

For these reasons, Consumer Reports considers the Ridgeline as the best midsize truck on the market.
