Although it hasn’t hit the market yet, the 2024 Volvo EX90 is already making waves. This full-electric SUV is set to be one of Volvo’s flagship vehicles. And frankly, it’s not going to be cheap. However, if you have the budget, this Volvo EV is going to offer some pretty serious safety tech.

What safety features will the 2024 Volvo EX90 have?

Volvo is a brand known for safety, and the EX90 SUV is bringing some new safety features to the table. This electric SUV is going to feature cameras, radar, and LiDAR in order to provide a safe driving experience. In a press release by Volvo, the brand stated that it aims to build cars that no longer crash.

The 2024 EX90 likely will not be the vehicle that achieves that. But it is clear that Volvo is serious about its goal. Most of these safety features will be next-generation. And it will be interesting to see how it performs in the real world, as well as how Volvo trickles it down to other models.

What is the 2024 EX90?

The Volvo EX90 is a full-size SUV that will be positioned above the XC90. And from what’s been shown so far, it does look pretty slick. At the same time, Volvo has been able to retain its unique design language. The big news is that this vehicle will debut Volvo’s next-generation safety technology. And that is bound to cause some excitement, especially because SUV drivers usually have safety tech as one of their top requirements.

According to Car and Driver, the base setup will make 496 horsepower thanks to its electric powertrain. But, it wouldn’t be surprising if more powerful variants were introduced at a higher cost. The 2024 EX90 will likely start around $80,000, which is a luxury price for a luxury vehicle.

Is Volvo going electric?

By 2030, Volvo plans to be an all-electric brand. That means it will no longer sell cars with gasoline engines. To some, that might be a bit of a disappointment, but the future of automotive is electric. Whether we like it or not. As an electric SUV, the EX90 marks the start of that transition. Although the brand has already been exploring the world of electric.

Volvo is not the only automaker taking advantage of EV performance and efficiency. If you need any indicator of what Ford thinks about electric powertrains, its top-selling F-150 pickup truck can now be had as an EV. And many other companies are doing the same with their trucks.

The 2024 EX90 should go into production at some point in 2023. But as always, there could be some delays depending on how the supply chain is looking. Because it is a flagship product, it wouldn’t be surprising if it is a bit difficult to find one at every Volvo dealership. Of course, only time will tell what actually happens with this electric SUV. It’s hard not to see it being a hit, even with its higher price point.
