Netflix’s The Adam Project is a heartwarming family movie that also happens to be a time-traveling SciFi action/adventure. The film is less of a car movie and more of a time-traveling fighter jet dogfight movie. But Zoe Saldaña’s character still uses an iconic baby-blue 1979 GMC Jimmy to rescue Ryan Reynolds‘ Adam and escape the bad guys.

What happens in The Adam Project?

Ryan Reynolds plays the titular Adam Reed, pilot of a time-traveling fighter jet from 2050 who travels back to the present day. He needs the help of both his father (Mark Ruffalo) and his 12-year-old self (Walker Cobell) to save the world in the witty SciFi action/adventure.

The latest Netflix hit film has something for everyone. The Adam Project has plenty of action sequences for action film fans. This film features mind-bending SciFi for fans of Tenet. It also features a heartfelt romance between Adam Reed and his wife Laura Shane (Zoe Saldaña). Finally, The Adam Project is centered around the touching relationship between Adam, his younger self, and their father.

Who is the woman in The Adam Project?

In Netflix’s The Adam Project, Zoe Saldaña plays Laura Shane, another time-jet pilot and future Adam’s wife. Jennifer Garner plays Ellie Reed, the Adams’ mother. Catherine Keener plays Maya Sorian, the Adams’ nemesis.

What is the SUV in The Adam Project?

When all seems to be lost for young and old Adam, Zoe Saldaña arrives in a baby-blue 1979 GMC Jimmy to rescue them. She even uses the old SUV to outrun the bad guys’ fighter jet.

The vehicle is clearly a late-70s/early-80s General Motors SUV. And it has GMC badging and the headlight bezels of a 1979 GMC Jimmy. That said, its true identity may be a bit more complex.

Saldaña’s SUV also has the grille of a Chevrolet K5 Blazer. Its badging and body are clearly a GMC Jimmy. But if someone swapped its headlights when they replaced the grille, it could be any year GMC Jimmy from 1973 through 1991.

The 1973-1991 Chevy Blazer/GMC Jimmy was a full-frame SUV, smaller than the Suburban and equivalent to a Ford Bronco or Dodge Ramcharger. It shared a chassis with Chevy and GMC pickup trucks. General Motors offered the truck with a series of I6 and V8 engines, including one Detroit Diesel.

What cars are in The Adam Project?

In addition to the unforgettable 1979 GMC Jimmy that outruns a fighter jet, The Adam Project features a stunt with a 2015 Subaru Outback and several Chevrolet Tahoes.

When Zoe Saldaña’s Laura visits the past from 2050, she gets herself a 1979 GMC Jimmy. Catherine Keener’s Sorian and her security convoy around in a series of Chevrolet Tahoes. She uses nearly new Tahoes during the 2022 scenes and older-generation 2015 Chevrolet Tahoes during the 2018 scenes.

[Spoiler Alert] Near the film’s climax, one of Sorian’s 2015 Chevy Tahoes is about to strike older Adam. His father, Louis Adam (Mark Ruffalo) smashes into the Tahoe with a 2015 Subaru Outback. But it’s not Louis’ car. Later, when he gets out of the crossover he says, “That’s your mother’s car!” So, it seems he borrowed it from Ellie Reed.
