Dodge is going electric on its own terms. This muscle car brand just unveiled its first eMuscle concept: the Charger Daytona SRT EV. It boasts a “multi-speed” manual transmission, loud “chambered exhaust,” and a host of design cues from Mopar muscle cars of yesteryear. One symbol Dodge has resurrected is a three-sided star known as the “Fratzog.” Going forward, every Dodge EV will wear this distinct vintage logo.

Back in November 2021, Dodge announced it was canceling the Charger as we know it by 2024. Then in August 2022, it unveiled a concept Charger coupe with the new eMuscle powertrain.

Stellantis is assuring fans of classic Mopar muscle that Dodge’s EVs will be different than anything else on the market. Analog technologies in the Charger EV include an eRupt “multi-speed” manual transmission and a “chambered exhaust” that makes performance noises based on speed and acceleration.

The retro details of the new Charger Daytona SRT EV concept range from its tall profile (thanks to a front wing), pistol-grip shifter, vertical grille stripes, full-width taillights, full-length center console, and five-spoked wheels. One other detail is its logo: a long-forgotten three-point star known as the Dodge “Fratzog.”

What is a Fratzog?

The Fratzog was Dodge’s logo from 1962 through 1981. It is three arrowhead shapes joined to create a three-sided star. The actual word “Fratzog” is otherwise meaningless and was coined by a Dodge designer.

Because the Fratzog is not a star–it only has three points–it is technically a deltoid. There is a slight gap between the base of each of hte three arrowheads that make up the Fratzog, and its center is a hollow triangle.

The Fratzog was the evolution of the six-sided star that was the Dodge Brothers’ original logo. In 1982, Dodge replaced the Fratzog with the five-sided Pentastar. Dodge is not bringing the Fratzog back for all its vehicles, but will be adding this vintage logo to certain, select vehicles.

All Dodge EVs will feature the Fratzog

Dodge is bringing back the Fratzog to denote its EVs. Before it even revealed its new electric Dodge Charger, it teased the outline of the an EV muscle car with an illuminated Fratzog logo.

When Dodge unveiled its Charger Daytona SRT Banshee EV, it also revealed that all future EVs will wear the same Fratzog logo. This retro emblem will actually denote the eMuscle lineup. Does this mean that Dodge will offer certain models with the same body styles as both internal combustion cars and EVs? We’ll just have to wait to find out.
