Every four years, United States presidential candidates try to get the attention of the media as much as possible to pontificate. Their speaking engagements, television interviews, town halls, and bus tours are all arranged so that the voters for the next election can get a better sense of who the candidates are and the direction they would like to see the United States head.

This year is no different. Regardless of political party affiliation, these candidates have each had their fair of driving duties in life. That may have changed when security teams effectively took that ability away from them. So, what did the top three candidates this year drive before security teams took over?

Before diving into the candidate’s choices, here is a small disclaimer. Before anybody says anything, this is not a political post. There is no preference thrown toward any candidate. There is only appreciation that each of them like driving or have at least driven a vehicle. The candidates are listed below in alphabetical order based on the last name.

Joe Biden

The Chevrolet Corvette is Joe Biden’s choice. He misses not being able to drive it too! Wouldn’t you? Jay got the permission of the White House and the Secret Service to have Joe drive the 1963 Corvette Stingray convertible again for the benefit of his show. See the clip below.

Bernie Sanders

A picture of Bernie Sanders driving an Audi R8 that floated on the internet turned out to be a hoax. The Lincoln that was reported on other sites is likely a government or security team vehicle. So, what does he really drive?

When the Senator returned home after having a heart attack, news outlets showed him walking into his home after having exited a Chevrolet Tahoe. However, that vehicle is related to the security team. Bernie’s vehicle is the car that was next to the Tahoe in the driveway, a red 2011 Chevrolet Aveo. Previous pictures of the Senator’s driveway also show a Subaru Forester. It turns out, that is his wife’s vehicle. 

Donald Trump

Donald Trump was wealthy well before getting to the White House. So, his ever-changing vehicle ownership list reflects what a person with gobs extra spendable cash has. There are luxury cars, supercars, and more rare or exclusive cars. His list includes a 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT, a 2015 Rolls Royce Phantom, 1993 Cadillac Allante, and a more common model, the Chevrolet Camaro, albeit a limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. The one he is more closely associated with though is the 2003 Mercedes Benz McLaren SLR.

Looking at the vehicles that all three candidates drive, it seems they have common ground. Them may refuse to admit that it is remotely possible on camera, but it is still undeniably true. Each of them owns a General Motors product. Who knew? Maybe GM should begin a campaign to bring Americans together through open road therapy – cue the national anthem and show a scene of a sunset at the end of a straight road.
