Pretty much any truck you buy will keep its value better than most cars. Let’s face it, trucks are hot. That means you can’t go wrong buying one – if you can find one. Many manufacturers are having trouble meeting the demand for new trucks.  But, one truck brand will its value better than any other. That truck, to nobody’s surprise, is Toyota. The Tundra is so popular a truck that it beats every single car or SUV, and Tacoma ranks third. The GMC Sierra comes in at number two.

If you pick the right truck you’ll be able to trade it in for more when the time comes. Resale value is still important whether you’re going to sell it yourself or trade it in. There are a few ways to maintain your resale value, which include not smoking in it, not putting on tacky accessories, and keeping the expensive accessories to a minimum. Not everyone will want to pay a premium for your bed decals, weird fender flares, or underglow lighting.  

One truck brand keeps its resale value better than others

According to Kelly Blue Book, some trucks will hold their value better than others. The site estimated which vehicles are projected to retain the highest percentage of their original sticker price. KBB expects the 2022 Toyota Tundra to retain 70.2% of its value over five years and the Tacoma expected to retain 60.6% of its value in five years. The Tundra beats every other vehicle KBB rated. That’s not a surprise. Toyotas in general hold their value well, with the 4Runner coming in as the SUV that holds its value better over five years than any other SUV.

The Toyota Tundra is a good truck made better by adding a Hybrid option for the first time. Toyota calls its hybrid the i-FORCE MAX, and it makes 437 horsepower when paired to a 3.5-liter V6. That allows the Tundra get 18 mpg in the city or 24 mpg on the highway. That’s a 10% gain for the Tundra in 2022. The Tundra starts at $35,950 and for that money you get a much more comfortable Tundra than the outgoing version.

The Tundra has several new options packages for 2022

This year the company added tons of new options packages for the Tundra to make it appeal to even more buyers. The SX package, for example, is a dark blackout package that includes grey 18-inch wheels, body-colored door handles, and a special interior. Then, you can also order the 1794 Edition that celebrates Texas, and comes with a massive chrome grille, rich leather everywhere, and suspension tuned for comfort.

The smaller Toyota truck keeps its value, too

Toyota Tacoma trucks hold their value well, too. Tacomas have been the best-selling smaller trucks for the last 17 years and are expected to retain 60.6% of their value according to Kelly Blue Book. The base price of a Tacoma is $26,700, and that contributes to this truck brand keeping its resale value.

Tacomas are not quite full-sized trucks, yet they still offer great utility. Toyota Tacomas are smaller than a full-size truck, but bigger than older mini-trucks. In TRD trims they offer tons of off-road capability. The base SR version is a great little work truck that can even get acceptable gas mileage with Toyota’s legendary reliability. You can order the Limited version that comes as a full luxury truck. It doesn’t matter which Tacoma version you get, but you can expect it will keep most of its value in five years.
