In the muscle car world, the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 dominates with speed. It boasts a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, putting out 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque. It’s the fastest Mustang ever, rocketing to 60 miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds. You probably won’t miss the option of a manual transmission in the new Mustang Shelby GT500 thanks to the seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission, with shifts taking only 80 milliseconds.

Reviewers at Cars.com were impressed with its performance both on the track and on everyday roads. They found the ride quiet and stable with an electronically controlled adaptive suspension. This Shelby GT500 is a very enjoyable drive, with head-turning looks. It has a unique grille and a vented hood, rear spoiler, and dual exhaust with quad tailpipes. It’s impossible to mistake this performance machine for any ordinary mustang. 

The Mustang’s drawbacks

They found that the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500’s interior wasn’t anything great, looking very similar to any Mustang. It does have some unique features like carbon-fiber trim, a dash plaque, and available Recaro seats. It has a six-way power-adjustable front seat with lumbar support, and in the back is a 50/50 split-folding rear seat. Cars.com would like to have seen a custom leather interior, livelier colors, or some more interesting options. 

This vehicle is not cheap. The 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 has a starting MSRP of $74,095, and fully loaded, the price soars to $105,000. There’s one option that costs even more than a base Mustang — a carbon fiber track package with painted racing stripes and a custom exterior color runs buyers $28,500.

The Chevrolet Corvette now has a new mid-engine design that has incredible power with a much lower price point at $60,000. Even when you load it up with options, it comes in well under the price of a loaded Shelby GT500. Only dedicated Mustang devotees will be willing to part with that amount of money for the ultimate Shelby GT500.

The all-new 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has a lot more than just power. An in-dash LCD screen keeps track of performance in real time, and launch control brings the brakes, traction control, and powertrain together for the quickest starts possible. Change drive modes by simply flipping a toggle, and choose from normal, sport, snow/wet, track, or drag strip for a custom driving experience. 

Standard features include red-painted Brembo brake calipers, an independent rear suspension, and selectable-effort electric power-assist steering. On the track, pull out even more performance with electronic in-line lock and launch control. It’s also packed with standard safety features including AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, dual front airbags and side-impact airbags, and an SOS alert system in case of an emergency. 

A 12-inch all-digital instrument cluster can be completely personalized. The LCD cluster displays three different views, normal, sport, and track. You can even change the colors and pick a hue to match whatever mood you’re in. The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 features a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters to keep you in complete control.
