At this point, critics have all but unanimously agreed that the Ram 1500 is not only the best Ram truck but most likely the best pickup truck, period.
Consumer Reports ranked it top for full-size pickup trucks, and second only to the Honda Ridgeline.
The 2022 Ram 1500 landed a score of 75/100 on Consumer Reports. Ram has mastered the pickup truck interior. Regardless of anything else, Ram makes the finest production interiors, period. They also have one of the smoothest rides of any pickup truck, midsize or otherwise.
The Ram 2500 and 3500 are also excellent trucks, but the half-ton Ram 1500 is by far and away the most popular model and most useable, day today.
What makes the 2022 Ram 1500 so good?
Consumer Reports has a laundry list of things they love about the Ram 1500. At the top of the list of pros is how smoothly and comfortably the 2022 Ram 1500 rides. CR praises the Ram for having a distinctly un-truck-esque ride. The suspension isn’t heavy and stiff like so many of its competitors. It also has one of the best-insulated cabins in the game making for a quiet and peaceful ride.
We can’t talk about what makes a Ram pickup truck great without talking about performance. The Ram 1500 comes with a great many engine options. Between the base 305-hp 3.6-liter V6 and the Ram TRX’s signature 702-hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8, there are still a 3.0-liter turbodiesel and a 5.7-liter V8. When configured properly, the 2022 Ram 1500 can tow 12,750 lbs.
Another aspect that make the Ram 1500 the best Ram pickup is the abundance of room in the cabin, not to mention the layout and design of the controls and infotainment interface. Consumer Reports gushed about how upscale the interior looks and feels.
Is Ram making a new pickup truck?
The 2022 Ram 1500 is without question the best pickup truck Ram makes. However, in following in the footsteps of the Ford Maverick and Jeep Gladiator, Ram is gearing up to bring back the old mid-size Ram Dakota.
The Ram Dakota is a reboot of the old Dakota nameplate but in a very different package. However, Ram hasn’t released much information about the little Ram yet. So, for the time being, the Ram 1500 remains the best Ram pickup truck and very likely the best pickup truck, period.
