What’s the Difference Between the Biggest Jeep Models
Jeep is an interesting brand. Maybe there are others I could come up with if I had the time, but Jeep is fairly unique in its position as a car brand that mostly means one thing to people. If you say “Jeep,” people immediately think of the Wrangler. The Wrangler is an icon. It’s a force. It rules the brand, and that’s that. However, Jeep does make some other stuff, and people are starting to care. Since two-door SUVs have nearly gone the way of the Buffalo, let’s take a look at the Jeep’s big boys. What are the differences between the biggest Jeep SUVs?
Full 2023 Jeep lineup?
Before we dig into the biggins, I fear that the (other) Jeep peeps might get hot on the mic if I don’t address the intro. Of course, we know Jeep makes other SUVs and trucks other than the Wrangler. Jeep also makes the Wrangler-based Gladiator. There, that oughta cover it. Kidding.

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L is nothing new. However, The Cherokee L is. Jeep stretched the Grand Cherokee out into a massive three-row SUV starting in 2021. At the time, the three-row SUV market was already huge, but it has only grown since. The Grand Cherokee L brought Jeep into the game with some of the most popular SUVs on the market, like the Kia Telluride and Toyota Highlander.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L comes with two engine options, 3.6-liter V6 and a 5.7-liter V8. While the GCL grew to the popular size, it still lacks style and offers nearly zero graces on the road. Yes, it’s big, but it also feels and acts big.
2023 Jeep Wagoneer
From the jump, the Jeep Wagoneer was always about style. The original Wagoneer debuted in 1962, and boy, was it a tall drink of water. Unlike the other Jeeps at the time, the Wagoneer wasn’t really about the off-road life for real. Not that it couldn’t do a little light off-roading, but it was really more for taking the family out and looking like you sport the outdoor lifestyle.
The current Wagoneer isn’t completely dissimilar to the original in that it is a Jeep but only in name. This is the brand’s first proper luxury SUV. However, like the OG Wagoneer, the 2023 Wagoneer is all about style. Technically, Jeep set the Wagoneer aside as its own brand. This means that you won’t find a single Jeep badge on the big wagon. However, we all know what time it is.
According to MotorTrend, the 2022 Wagoneer launched with a big V8 powerplant, but the 2023 model switched to a more contemporary twin-turbo 3.0-liter I-6 engine called the Hurricane. Along with the new powertrain, the Jeep Wagoneer L also arrived for the 2023 model. This extra-long version rivals the biggest SUVs on the market, the Chevy Suburban and Ford Expedition Max.
What’s the difference between the Jeep Wagoneer L and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L?
The word “Grand” says it all. The Grand Wagoneer L is just the fancier upmarket version of the Wagoneer. The Grand Wagoneer’s competitors are different from its less-fancy brothers. Instead of the Tahoe, Suburban, and Expedition, the Grand Wagoneer competes with the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes G-Class, and the BMW X7. The Grand Wagoneer L Starts at around $93,500.
