The news, now and then, has reports of what the working conditions inside Tesla are. Media usually releases the nasty side, but what about the people who say that working at the Tesla plant was great or had an awesome opportunity? 

Glassdoor.com, an employer review site, shows that more people loved working there, and they only had a few negative comments to say about it. Let’s explore what Tesla is and what people had to say about it.

What exactly is Tesla?

Tesla is a company that designs and builds all-electric vehicles, which are known for its autopilot technology. While recognized as an automotive industry, they also develop and create energy generation storage systems and products for use in places like supercharging and servicing stations and your home turf. 

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is responsible for most of its success. Since its founding in 2003 by Musk and his partners, Jeffrey B. Straubel, Martin Eberhard, and Marc Tarpenning, it rose to sales heights of over $26 billion. 

The main headquarters resides in Palo Alto, California, but the manufacturing plant, where most workers are employed, is in Fremont, California. Plans are in the works to open up more facilities in other parts of the country, such as Austin, Texas. By the end of 2018, they had over 48,000 employees.

What are the pros of working at Tesla?

According to many employees who either currently work or previously worked for Tesla, there are many good points about employment there. Glassdoor.com says that 58% of those employees, reviewing their job, would recommend it to a friend, and 73% said they approved of the company’s CEO, which is Elon Musk. 

Some of the reviewers stated that they had an exceptional team to work with, and those in leadership roles treated them well. They felt that the work environment was fun and made the workdays less stressful, even though they always seemed busy. Others said the pay was good, super-smart people surrounded them, and the job benefits were great. 

Working at Tesla meant that its employees had tons of learning opportunities, work was consistent, and they had great stock options. On the Glassdoor review site, the overall score for Tesla was a 3.4 out of 5 stars, which says employees, on average, enjoyed working there. 

Were there any negative comments concerning employment at Tesla?

As with any job, several people were sharing the negative side of being employed there. One of the biggest complaints has to do with pay. Sure, $19 an hour, for production assistants, isn’t bad, but considering it’s for the plant in Fremont, California, it isn’t enough of a living and working wage. 

Like some people, on Reddit forum state, the cost of living in that area is much higher and couldn’t possibly be done on that meager of a wage. You would have to find a place to rent out with several other renters to get by. 

Some employees complained that things were always disorganized, they worked long hours, and they also had to come in on many weekends. These conditions made working there pretty stressful for quite a few workers. 

All in all, most people thought it was a pretty good place to work. You have to keep a few things in mind, as the cost of living in the area where the plant’s located.
