What’s New With the 2022 Chevy Silverado?
The 2022 Chevy Silverado is the next iteration of the popular pickup truck. With a new year comes new features, so what’s new for 2022? This model year, the Silverado receives some significant changes on the interior and exterior as well as the all-new off-road model. Consequently, new features and improvements come at a cost, so the Silverado is a little more expensive in 2022.
2022 Chevy Silverado exterior and interior restyling
All 2022 Silverado models come with restyled front ends. The new front fascia for 2022 gives it a sleeker, bulkier look, helping it stand out amongst other pickup trucks. The headlights sit on top and below the centerline displaying the iconic Chevy logo. The dark color makes the front grille complement any exterior color option perfectly.
In addition, the interior of the vehicle is completely redesigned. However, not every trim level gets a new interior as they did exterior. Only the LT model and higher have a new interior, leaving out the Work Truck and Custom trim levels. The interior includes new cabin materials and a more modern layout, which adds technology.
What new technology is onboard?
The redesigned interior for the LT trim and higher includes a 13.4-inch touchscreen. The horizontally-oriented infotainment touchscreen shares the front dash with the digital instrument panel. Using the touchscreen, drivers can use Google technology for voice commands and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Simply saying “Hey Google” enables drivers to send texts, make calls, change audio settings, and more with their voice.
In addition, Chevy has added most of its active safety features to the Silverado as a standard. Highlighting the features are forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. However those features don’t complete the safety suite, also included is front pedestrian braking, lane change alert, rear cross-traffic alert, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, a rear camera mirror, and a safety alert seat.
2022 Chevy Silverado High Country Super Cruise
The top-of-the-line model of the 2022 Chevy Silverado, High Country, can now be equipped with Super Cruise. Super Cruise is General Motor’s brand new hands-free driving technology. Since only the High Country model has it, it’ll cost a minimum of $56,395 for a Silverado with Super Cruise.
On 200,000 miles of compatible roads in the U.S. and Canada, Super Cruise allows drivers to travel completely hands-free. New capabilities being introduced at the start of 2022 include trailering, automatic lane change, and enhanced navigation display. Trailering means towing a boat, RV, or camper while hands-free driving, and automatic lane change allows for optimal lane changing when safe. Enhanced navigation display simply shows routes on the vehicle nagivation system that are available for hands-free driving.
2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 off-road
Brand new to the lineup is Chevy’s answer to the Ford Raptor and Ram TRX. The ZR2 is built for driving off-road and is equipped to do just that. It comes with a 420-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine, 33-inch tires, and electronic-locking front and rear differentials. In addition, it uses red tow hooks, skid plates, and a high-mounted steel front bumper. Ground-clearance and other off-road specs are unconfirmed.
Compared to the competition, the Silverado ZR2 just isn’t as good. It’s designed to be a powerful, off-roading truck, but fails to do so better than Ford or Ram’s offerings. The TRX comes with a 700-hp Hellcat engine, and the Raptor has 37-inch tires. While these are obviously over-the-top and expensive, we don’t know the price of the ZR2 just yet. We do know it’ll cost more than the High Country, and hopefully less than the Raptor, which starts at $65,840.
Although the Silverado stil falls short to the competition in some ways, its made some excellent strides for 2022. According to CarAndDriver, the exterior and interior redesigns are fantastic, and give the pickup truck an improved look. Despite the ZR2 off-road model losing to its competitors, it’s an exciting new option that may be much more affordable.
